Cop following me...

i need some information. its 4am and i can't find anything on google and too tired to read through threads to find it, if it's there.

cops have been following me recently... as in going out of their way to follow me yet they are not pulling me over. this has happened 3 times in the past 4 days... i see a cop, it will TURN AROUND and follow me to basically wherever i'm going. tonight i was turning right onto a street, a cop at the light turned to go the opposite direction on the street that i was previously on and drove a little while then turned around. we were pretty far down this road when we see headlights in the far distance.. not sure if its the cop or not. keep in mind that im going 1-2 over the speed limit, not acting suspicious and i am sober. (driving drunk people home) within 10 seconds the cop is right behind me... he had to speed to catch up with me because he was a LONG way back. follows me for a good 10 minutes until i turn into the apartment complex (my destination)

i pull out of the complex and he is sitting at the albertsons right across the street just waiting.

throw some laws at me.. is it legal for a cop to follow you? he was deliberately following me with no reasonable suspicion. not only that, but he had to break a law to follow me... and he never pulled me over. this has been happening a lot lately.

also is it legal for cops to speed let's say 55 mph on a 30mph road without lights, then stop at a red light? it obviously wasn't an emergency... ?

sorry for the rant im super fucking tired and annoyed.

Maybe your car/ you fit a description of someone they're looking for. But i dont see why they wouldnt pull you over if that was the case, Seems wack to me

Sometimes cops will get right up on you and follow you hoping that they will "scare" you into speeding or doing something wrong. Then they pull you over, and meet their quota or whatever. Just drive right and nothing should happen. Good luck!

If the cop noticed that you had other people in the car and you are all young, he was probably profiling you and just waiting for some sort of screw up. None the less, a cop can pull you over for anything they believe they have probable cause on.

To be honest this is true in most all cases. Cops can do what ever.

When I was in high school I used to get followed and pulled over a lot. I account most of this to my girlfriend living 2 towns over and me always dropping her off late. For awhile about once every 3 months a cop would pull me over at the same spot in the small town in-between my girlfriends house and mine. I never got a ticket but he would always make some excuse for pulling me over. The cops just want to make sure you are sober or not up to funny stuff.

A lot of people panic when a cop is right on their tail. Not necessarily speeding, but doing something wrong. It happens.

Careful, they gona pee i you but. But fp real, they are aloud to do pretty much every fucking thing they want...

This would be such lols. Is it actually legal for a civilian to arrest a cop? I know they can obviously arrest another citizen, but what are the guidelines?

this. but if ure concerned with this, just go up to the cop and ask them why theyre following you, just make sure u have pepper spray for when he tries to pee in ur butt

This plus it's the end of the month so they are feeling more and more pressured to fill the quota. But Ive never heard of them doing a U turn to do this. Just be carefull

There could have been a crime involving a vehicle the same as yours. This happened to me and eventually they pulled me over and the officer told me that the same car as mine had been involved in a robbery and that this might happen a lot until the right criminal was found.

you can only put people under citizens arrest if you're older than 18 I think.

lulz but my gay 12 year old neighbor can somehow because he goes to some stupid police acedemy.

cops dont really have quotas anymore i dont know about her state exactly, but in MA thats the case, and im pretty sure getting rid of the quota was a pretty uniform thing

This. My father was driving to work and ended up being surrounded by multiple cop cars, pulled over at gunpoint with a roadblock seen in the distance. They took him out, cuffed him and searched his truck only to find nothing. They thought he robbed a bank at gunpoint because his truck matched the description.

Seriously though, you're driving people around at 4am in the middle of nowhere. They'll prolly follow anyone like this because most people out with drunks in their car are also drunk around then.

This happened to me too. Me and a few buddies were out around midnight driving through town. We are driving down a main road and are about to turn right onto a smaller road. A cop is sitting on the smaller road waiting to pull out (yeah yeah tehe) we turn and he sees the car full of people. He pulls out onto the main road and pulls a u-turn. Follows us all the way out of town. They see a car full of teenagers out late, of course hes gonna follow them and see what they are doing.

Pull over to the side of the road, call 911, and tell them that you are being followed and are worried that they may be stalking you for criminal reasons. Don't mention that it is a cop.

The other option is to pull over, if they pull over behind you get out and ask him/her if they need anything from you, and if this is really the best thing they can do to help keep the peace.

as far as following you goes, they're entitled to do anything anybody else could do, i.e. follow you. dont know about the running reds part though

Yep. Most of the time when it's late at night they'll pull you over for really stupid shit and just make sure you're not drunk. If you're not they just let you go. It's happened a couple times to me and a few of my friends.

Honestly next time this happens and you dont have drunk people in your car pull over and wave him down and ask him why he has been following you for the last week or 2.

if you said it keeps happening, look and see if it's the same cop every time. if not, its definitely your car.

next time this happens, turn on your blinker, and slowly pull over to the side of the road (that is if you are not doing any illegal, or in possession of anything illegal). if the cop also stops behind you, you have every right to ask what the fuck he is doing. Ask for his name and badge number, and then go to your local police station and speak with someone about it; it never hurts to form a complaint.

This exactly.

I had cops follow me around all the time a few years back... it got to the point where I pulled over to the side of the road. he pulled over and turned on his lights, came up and had the nerve to ask me what I was doing out at that hour (it was like 1am... on a thursday... and I wasnt swerving/speeding/even coming home from a bar, or in the direction of any that I knew of)

I kindly retorted with a "What is the exact cause and reasoning behind you pulling me over. It's surely not to ask me how my day is going, for if it is, then you're wasting my time and taxpayer dollars"

He promptly found a reason to let me go and left haha.

i understand they're "profiling" but the other night when i dropped someone off the cop was fucking waiting outside of the neighborhood to keep following me.

last night the cop was waiting at albertsons.

its becoming excessive.

id say check if you have tail lights out or anything. i assume if you were driving drunk people home it was a time of day where drunk driving etc is big, he's profiling you/waiting to see if you screw up. i think ive heard they can only follow you for so long without pulling you over but that prob changes state to state etc, plus even if its true it doesnt mean he won't

i'd say just play it cool and be very careful to not break the law. if it gets to a crazy point you could maybe pull over and ask if there's anything wrong but that might not get a great reaction

also, are you a looker? might just be some creep cop haha

did you just buy your car? if you did, make sure you have legit papers and liscence plates... they could be following you if they think your ride is stolen.

well i dont know you but if they do so, it's probably because you do suspicious things or people you are with. seriously.

Most likely he was just following you for that long to run your plates, because hey its 4am wtf else is there to do. If it continues call the police station and ask if there was a car fitting your cars description because you keep getting followed?

also: i posted at 4 in the morning. it was around 2am... and no i'm not involved in anything illegal enough to be watched like that. boise isn't a small enough town for cops to have nothing better to do... but its not large enough for them to think my car fits the description of someone who committed a serious crime, if it did... he would have pulled me over already.
