Cool story time, I toured JSC in Houston

so as a few of you know, i am a community college electrical engineering loser, but it gives good opportunities. I enrolled in a online NASA class, and if you got an average of 95% or higher, they would select you for an 3 day onsite activity at JSC working with NASA engineers for a cute lil' fake activity. more info here http://www.nasa.gov/offices/education/programs/descriptions/National_Community_College_Aerospace_Scholars.html

The activity itself, I hated, to be 100% honest, I hate nearly every engineering student I've met. The only ones I liked were the guys being paid by work to finish their degree. But our mentor is a propulsions engineer for NASA, so that was fun to pick at her brain.

Anyways, because of this, I got to take a VIP tour, some stuff normal people see, other stuff they don't. The coolest part was getting to sit in Apollo mission control, we also got to listen to a speech from Apollo's flight director (the guy that wears the vests) that was amazing.

anyways, pics

IRL mission control, where STS-132 is being operated from, that was cool.

Apollo control, note, all the nerds

But all in all, sitting at Apollo mission control was one of the coolest things I've ever done, getting a picture taken with Eugene Kranz was the second coolest

/cool story

ps if pics dont work, please kill me

damn, kranz is even still around nasa? well i suppose as long as he's still up for it, he may as well be around to help. Probably the most experienced man in nasa, as i think he's been there since at least gemini...shit maybe even mercury.

and you lucky bastard. i'd have always killed to work for nasa someday, but unfortunately...my math/science skills weren't what you'd call great. or even good. So i've got to settle for sitting on my ass studying history.

THE IMFAMOUS POOL! That's pretty sick! I used to be a total loser when i was little and watch the NASA Channel (more boring that C-SPAN) for hours on end of them training for missions underwater in the pool. Then i used to do it in my neighbors pool. Cool story Hansel for me. Cool experience for you. Quality thread.

that's dope--looks like all in all it was a pretty amazing experience. great pix too.

do you happen to go to century?

Dude! You should of hit me up!

I'd of taken you out on the bender of your life in Houston, and shown what a real cool mutha fucking engineer is like... aka me...

We'd of tore shit up....

I've been down there, it's cool... but I find it very dated, all 60's buildings etc... but i guess that's cool in the way that it's as is from the Apollo era... and the apollo rocket is insane.. all those fucking ancient solenoids and hydraulic lines etc... fuck i wouldn't ride in that to the shop let alone to the moon.... seriously incredible engineering for the period...

By the way, if you want to get into super cool engineering and mad $$$ - you need to be here working in Offshore Subsea Systems and Oil Production. If you thought NASA was technologically advanced, you haven't seen anything yet... Hit me up if you want any career advice on Subsea Engineering etc...
