I need to know how to conver the videos so i can make edits with Windows Movie Maker. any links or comments help!

if you're strictly looking for a converter, look to MPEG-streamclip. it's really good, free, straightforward etc and will not lose quality.

however i would agree with the above people, get a different editing system.

Your GoPro footage should work as MP4s. If it doesn't, try downloading quicktime for the codecs. If that doesn't work, it's probably that WMM can't handle the HD.

But really, just don't use movie maker. It sucks.

my moviemaker sucks massive dick with any files other than .wmv. to combat this problem, download realplayer (or other file converter) and convert all your footage into .wmv before editing. otherwise, you'll get fucked by moviemaker and bluescreened up the ass. trust me. re-editing is a bitch.

so either convert files to .wmv, or try for some better software, i'm in the same boat.

Being a "basic" (& free) movie editing app, Windows Movie Maker (WMM) traditionally wants to work with the two native Windows video formats: WMV and AVI. GoPro cameras shoot in highly compressed H.264 MP4 format. The newest WMM 2012 edition, which you probably have since you are using Win7, can handle H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video but the "horsepower" of your PC might not handle the needed decompression very well, especially if you are trying to edit on a laptop.

GoPro uses the Cineform codecs to handle their video (and now owns the Cineform company) and lets you download their Cineform Studio editing tools to make handling your GoPro footage easier.

One thing you might try is to use brorsoft video converter to transcode your MP4 footage into Cineform AVI, which is easier to edit with. See:
