Hey alpine, yeah, you ask me a year ago, I woulda told you stupid people believe in god. Probably a month ago.....BUt if I actually compare my 'proof' that there is no god to the 'signs' I have been seeing all around me...I have to acknowledge that either my life is a giant coincidence or there is a conscious energy around me that interacts with my energy...I don't know shit, and I am not qualified to say there is or isn't a god, who am I to say that? So I am going to stop saying yes or no, and leave it to the dogs..Im going to use signs and play with them too.

Yes, the majority of wars are started over religion, but thats just because some people twist it into something that is useful for them and fits there messed up agenda. They act like they're really into living the way the religion wants them too, but if the really lived that way, they wouldn't be starting wars or blowing up buildings, or killing tons of people. Man its all the same shit. God consciousness, enlightenment, whatever you want to call it its the same shit different toilet. I used to be hugely anty catholic but i've come to realize its essentially the same. The bible has the 10 commandments while the buddhists have the ten non virtues, jesus is a major figure in the bible as he is in the koran, Islamics surrender to Allah (Islam means submission) while taoists submit to the day. The message and teachings are the same, at least the important parts. All that is really important is peace, respect and love. There is something to learn from every religion and i just don't see the utility in submitting yourself to a particular doctrine when truth is personal.

Second, I don't see how you can compare buddhism to christianity. the buddhists never started any crusades or hung any scientists for saying the world was round, and instead of saying others are wrong they simply accept the fact that they're just different. Buddhists are trying to reach enlightenment, not trying to keep from burning in hell their whole lives. Sorry, I have friends who are christian and whatnot, but i also know way too many people who are over the top about it. Everyone needs to just fucking accept everyone else, and I can handle anything but violence and preaching.

What i find odd is that 99.9% of atheists know nothing about any kind of religion. I call that ignorance. Oh, and ljb or whatever his name is did count hugs, and I remember it vividly. But seriously, before you start knocking Christians or whatever, read a book or two. Not necessarily the bible, even some of CS lewis's books. The deal alot with the bible and religion and maybe then your opinion will matter.

Faith is more than just blind belief. it is a feeling, not a feeling or a need to have a reason for those things we dont understand. Faith is a different kind of feeling, almost freeing in a sense.

I have a hard time listening to people say that god isn't real, and there is no life after death. Nobody knows until they pass, nobody alive in the world right now has all the answers or even knows exactly what is going to happen. What makes half the people in this thread the experts I will never understand.

If you want a better understanding, read the bible, or some kind of study bible that helps you understand some of the meanings. A lot of what happens in our daily lives relates very closely. We may not get any physical proof that god is there, or somewhere, but, I can truly say that he is a part of my life. There have been many things in my life already that I can say have to do with god. Start to pray, for yourself, for other people, it may not work out all the time, but it does work, i've had it work many times for me, and that is where I get my proof of god working in my life. I don't try and shove my faith down anybody's throat, but I believe that at some point in everyones life, they are exposed to god. It is that persons choice to persue in their faith, or to live their life however they please.

I believe there is a heaven and a hell and that when I die, thats where I will be going, not sure which one at this point in time.

If you follow god and live your life the way that the bible says to, then you have a one way ticket to heaven, and who knows what that will be like. If you decide to ignore god and live on your own, blocking him out, then hell may be what you have to look forward to. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say except that heaven seems a lot more inviting to me.

Atheists don't necessarily have strong feeling about religion, you don't have to be a militant church-hater to be an atheist, you just have to not believe in God. A lot of non-atheists get so defensive when people say they don't believe that they think they're being insulted. I'm not an atheist though; as with so many other areas of life, I don't know what to believe.

I dont find it cushy and convinient. i find it very difficult at times because it is not about being saved and going to heaven at all it is what pushes me to lead a 'good' life. I dont lead a good life to get into heaven and i sure dont go around preaching to anybody. i get a little bit of 'heaven' every time i do something that makes someone else smile or helps them out. whether or not there is a heaven and whether or not i go there doesnt matter to me. That smile or thank you from someone is the second best feeling next to the rush of skiing!
