Contour vs. GoPro

The GoPro is better, but the Contour in my opinion is pretty durable. I've fallen with mine many times and gotten it plenty wet. I'd still get the GoPro though.

GoPro looks better on film I think. You can see more in the shots with the 180 degree fisheye it has if I am correct. More versatile, too.

170 degree. but still, pretty good. it's crazeh awsumz for follow cams; even without an LCD screen you can keep whoever your following in frame.

lol, in any other case I'd agree with you, but not this time, you wannabe asshole. Keep posting though, maybe one day you'll understand what's going on.

get ready cause im about to drop some knowledge on y'all (claim)

ok so! i have both a gopro (won it for free) and a contour (it was a gift)

POV skiing (point of view skiing)

contour- it can be mounted anywhere on your helmet and the lens rotates so that its flat with the horizon

gopro- is a square so it has to be standing straight up cause lens doesnt spin.

contour- has a "slide" record button so you can be sure its recording/ feel when its recording because the slide is forward

gopro- its a pain to use by yourself because its hard to hear the beeping and know its on the right setting because you cant see it unless you take it off your head.

both had same quality i think

shooting video with friends

gopro is easy to mount and point and film!

contour is prob easy to do this too but i use my gopro for it because i think its easier.

waterproof

gopro comes in waterproof casing

contour is water resistant (you can use it while its snowing or whatever) but there is no guarantee of water proofing unless you buy the waterproof casing. the waterproof casing makes it a lil bulkier.

sound-

with casing on gopro sound sucks.

contour sound is sick

mounting-

gopro- pole mounts are where its at

gopro- the helmet mount thing is smaller

contour- bigger, more noticeable helmet mount

uploading- ( i have a mac)

gopro- easy. plug it in.

contour i had some trouble with

Both are sick. I see contours in alot more pro videos i think but gopros are super popular too. idk either way is a win.

basically i like the gopro more i think. i mean if your looking for a point of view camera for shooting "your view" on skiing i think that the contour is better... but if your holding the camera in your hand or pole mount the gopro is fun.

feel free to ask me questions if youre wondering about anything else! PM me! hope i could help

One thing to consider in your choice is the live view function. I'm not trying to sway you either way, both companies have sick options, but you might like one more than the other.
GoPro: LCD BacPac so you have a little screen on the back that allows you to get a live feed and check playback.
Contour: If you have a smartphone, you can sync it via bluetooth so you get an 8fps feed on your phone with which you can check the angle of your shot and change camera settings.

while people seem to be actually helping here, i might as well ask a serious question.

Does anybody know if the Contour GPS tracks where you're going while NOT filming? Like, if I was on a BC trip and wanted to load my route, would it work or does it just track while recording?

I've seen good things done with both of them. Honestly, it's all about the filmer in my opinion. As long as it films in good quality you should be just fine if your decent at filming.

I've owned both and prefer the GoPro... it has a wider field of view which means you can get more of the action plus it has more mounting options too. The only down fall (in my opinion) is it looks like a camera from the 80's about to go deep sea diving.

the new Contour camera coming out is much better. It has a wider angle lens, similar to the go pro. It also has bluetooth which enables you to use your iPhone/droid/smart phone, as your LCD screen. Pretty cool. Maybe wait a month or two to get one.

The GoPro is indestructable. AND if you buy it from best buy with the extended/accidental coverage plan, all you have to do is have the broken camera in your hand and they will give you another one in the store at no additional cost besides the initial cost for the plan.

GoPro with a LCD screen its great. The screen is so awesome to see what our doing and replay it works like a charm!

nope. you have to turn it on and leave it on until it gets a lock which can take awhile.
once it has the lock though the gps is pretty accurate. tracks speed, altitude, and location.

yea the 960 looked like a good choice for me because you can get it for 170 off gopros site with a couple vital mounts. its quality is a little lower but its nothing that would bother me personally. altho it lacks in many features like the ability to connect things like the little screen
