Concussion

Ok last week monday i got a concussion. I overshoot a 20 ft booter throwing a 5 and fell back onto my head. I went to the hopsital and they said my CAT Scan looked great but i definetly had a concussion without a doubt. And ive had headaches on and off since then. My hill is having a slopestyle comp tomorrow, and i really wanna enter. Do you think i should be able to do 15-20 foot booters since it has been almost two weeks now? That was the first concussion i ever had in my life. + i will have on a helmet.

willhamann (fellow NSer and close personal friend) just got a concussion too. Was wearing a helmet, cracked his head against a tree, split the helmet. Got a staple in his head. Pretty gnarly

I wouldn't risk it. A friend of mine has had so many in hockey that he can't play anymore, and he had to take a semester off of school to heal and his brain doesn't work the way that it did anymore. I'd just be safe if I were you, go and be stoked on the people skiing but don't enter. Give your brain time to heal, concussions are a weird thing. Just be safe man.

definite no. if you get another concussion (mild or severe) before you have fully healed from this one, the effects will last much longer or worse permanently. play it safe and throw in the towel, it's not worth it IMO.

oh and i have had three severe concussions over the past three years, and as a result, i will have mild to severe headaches for the rest of my life along with slightly impaired equilibrium.

I am recovering from a concussion right now as well. It has been almost 10 days and I'm finally feeling close to 100%. The first week I was stuck on the couch and couldn't do anything. not even study.

Damn...i skied on Saturday too, just only stayed in the mini park the whole time :/ im sking again tomorrow prolly just stay in the mini park again or just do some rails and boxes....No jumps tho.

Its a major bummer not being able to go hard in the park and having to take it easy, but im going out to Utah on the 23rd and i guess its better to take it easy than get a concussion and not be able to ride some dope Utah parks and pow.

Brain injuries are the worst. You shouldn't participate in any sport until at least 6 weeks after. But do what you want its your head

it actualy depends on the severity of the concussion, iv had small concussions that your off snow for like 2-3 days all the way to like a month. if you still have a headache whenever you like get your heart rate up id say definatly a no, cause it means you still have a concussion ahah

concussions are very hard to read. even when you feel 100%, you really aren't. i had a mild one back in high school (blurred vision after impact, vomiting, dizziness, light sensitivity, intense headaches for weeks) and i came back too fast. over time i've noticed a change in my character and went from 20/20 vision to needing glasses (could be genetic tho). do yourself a favor and rest.

you should be fine, just remember to pray to Hjubarak before you do your run, for he is the god of brain injurys. Ofter I prepare a small sacrifice for him before I do anything where I may be concussed. Usually a goat or large rabbit should suffice, but if you really want his attention I recommend a large pig or even a bull if you can find one.

also, he hates it if you pronounce his mane wrong so here is how to say it: HUE-bar-ack

Best of luck and may Hjubarak bless you

if you have been experiencing on and off headaches definately NO, as well dont think by doing casual rails your in the clear. The last concussion i got (which ended my ski career) was on a box. Take the time and heal, there will be another slopestyle.
