Computer is fucked, smart people help please?

turn off, unplug for 15 seconds. turn on. run a virus scan. theres my advice

yes i restarted, yes i unpluged, i know my first post sounded pretty dumb, but im not that bad. haha, i have tried running it in different modes from start up, pressed f12 when it first came up and tried to get it going on a different path, but no luck.
background on what happened before it fucked up, i tried to download a hefty phish collection, i turned it off after it was done, and it has never worked right since, this was about a week ago. i have the mcaffee virus protection shit, dont remember the exact name.
and i dont know my i.p. im on my dads computer right now, mine wont even do enough for me to try and find my ip on it.

its the download that did you in
if you had anything important on it you might want to take it and put it on a flash, or just back up what you need, and do a re-install
although look into it a little more, and be careful with what you downlaod
you can use sites such as http://www.virustotal.com to check what viruses a file or folder may have
don't jump onto a re-install until your 100% sure theres nothing else you can do, cause theres no system restore on that

HAVE YOU TRIED A SYSTEM RESTORE?
go start>help and support> then on the left it says system restore, try that and it should undo everything that was done back to a certain point

if your using windows press f8 during start up and you can go to last best known configuration or you can try to boot up in safe mood (not with networking) and see what you can do. I use avast antivirus. its free for home use and there is a paid bidness version. I have it running here on all of them and it works perfect, updates itself.

sounds like my old computer. if all else fails and so does calling mac, save important stuff on a flash or 2 and do a re-install. i did this. twice. then my harddrive died and so did the computer. now i have a new one 
on that note, delete system 32, throw your comp out the window, smash it repeatedly with a baseball bat ( office space style)and then go buy new one.
on a more serious note, if all the aforementioned advice doesn't work, try re-installing your OS. if that doesn't work, go to your BIOS settings through the start up screen and see if there is any component that is not booting up or is having a catastrophic failure.
