Computer help.

Hey fellow NSers, I am in need of some help. I have recently gotten my hands on a hand-me-down laptop, a Dell Vostro 1000. I have been doing research, and found that with a BIOS upgrade, the computer can run Windows 7 and hold up to 8gb of RAM. I was wondering if I should do the upgrades, and then get 8gb of RAM, or stay the same, (the computer has a 64 Bit dual core processer), so I was wondering what to do.

do the upgrade. and get 64-bit windows 7. and a good antivirus for all that porn.

but anyway,

wat's the OS on it now? vista? if that's the case then i might consider getting windows 7 64 bit. if you run windows 7 you want at least 4 gigs, imo

btw i'm a systems administrator so i deal with this shit all the time

OS is XP on it rite now.

unless you hate xp for some reason, i wouldn't throw too much money at this thing and just chill with xp.

its an X-Mas present (Windows 7) and I don't have the option to get a new system.

if you're going to windows 7 i would make sure dell has drivers. then download them and put it on a flash drive.
