is there any device, like tablet connected to computer, so i can draw on this tablet with a pen and it would export it to computer. how is it called? does anbody have it? are they helpful for drawing curved shit, or its easier do do it with a mouse? where can i get it?

At this school they have the things called smartboards, you write on that and it comes up onto the comptuar screen. Its really amazing, it also link directly to the computar so you can click with your fingers on the screen instead of using the mouse.

I'm looking to buy a pair of Big Stix 8.0 if anyone knows a site or a store in the NY area that has them please message me.

thanks i just found some in futureshop.ca

i want to use them for graphic design. to make similar stuff as ninthward site. it looks sick and it takes a lot of time to use a mouse.

yo yo yo guy, make sure you get one that is actually meant for drawing guy, cause yo guy... if they are cheap the will look really bad, think drawing on a palm pilot. the lines are crap and quality is low

The Wacome on that melvs posted is the one that i've heard about. Supposed to be really good. I think my neighbor has one.

Wacom is the best company for graphic tablets followed by.... nobody. their pretty much the only choice out there. thy have 3 types

1-they have the graphire this is there bottom of the line for the home user these are there cheapest ones and have 512 levels of pressure and . currently they are at graphire 3 which doesnt have much of a difference from the previous models other than shape

2-The second one is the intuos this is for the pro it has programable shortcut buttons high resolution (5,080 lpi) and 1024 levels of sensitivity a really cool touch strip that acts like the scroll wheel on your computer. the intuos is on its second version

3- The Cintiq This is their top of the line for people who draw things that will be printed and sold for alot of money it is only for people who will be making alot of money from their work (or rich people who want to get an expensive toy) This has 1024 levels of accuracy and a tablet resolution of 5080 lpi and a display resolution of 1600 by 1200 (for the 21 inch version) or 1280 by 1024 (for the 17 inch version)they go for 2499USD and 1799 USD respectively.

I have been into 3d animation and graphics design for the last 5 years and done internships from small production studios (10 employees) to big Game studios such as EA games and I have never seen anybody use anything other than Wacom. I have tried both the Intuos and the Cintiq and they are great you cant go wrong. as for the graphire I have never tried it but can imagine its great

 
the reason they have mouses with them is so that you can replace your mouse and dont have to move the tablet out of the way. personally when I had my Wacom I never used a mouse. I used the stilus for everything from browsing through files to playing Counterstrike. it feels weird at first but then feels natural since you probably have been using a pen/pencil longer than you have been using a mouse.

and for the record I dont work for Wacom cause on these forums any time a person says anything good about a company in detail they are automatically branded as working for that company

 
so does the tablet have a screen on it that you can see your drawing on, or how do you know where to draw the line on the tablet? otherwise you would be drawing blindly.

i geuss im just not sure how these tablets work.

the cintiq is a screen but the others dont have a creen. basically every part on the tablet represents a point on your screen. the very center of the tablet is the very center of the screen. if the tablet is exactly the same size as your screen then one inch to the right of the center of the tablet is 1 inch to the right of the screen and so on. if the size is diferent then everything is proportional. its a bit weird at first but then everything becomes second nature and you dont think twice about what your drawing.

yeah wacoms are really fun. after a while you wont feel as comfortable with a mouse as with your tablet and you will use only your stylus.
