February 14: Monster

Energy presents Jibbing for Jacksons - the first event in a terrain park

contest series, taking place on lower Exhibition under the lights. Registration

is 4pm, practice 5pm and jam starts shortly thereafter. 100 competitors: 50

snowboarders, 50 skiers (men and women all ages and talents. The all-new

Monster Energy terrain park feature will be unveiled and central to the

competition setup. This is a 'best trick' jam session with many winners. Each

time a judge sees a skier or rider stomp a trick worthy of a

"Jackson," Monster officials will hand the competitor a $20 bill.

Entry fee for all riders is $20 (it's about the Jacksons) and helmets are mandatory. Athletes

under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at registration to

sign a liability release form. Jibbing-for-Jacksons is a night contest held on

Searchlight (on lower Exhibition) and competitors and spectators can rock out

under the lights to tunes spun from a slopeside DJ booth.

February 21: Helly

Hansen Big Mountain Battle - (course designed by Helly Hansen and

Backcountry.com athlete Chris Davenport)
Teams of 2 can compete for an

all-expense-paid trip to the final Battle

in the Bowls on March 29 in Aspen/Snowmass. The Battle begins at 10 am. Cost: $75 per team (not including lift

ticket). Each team must (ski, snowboard, or mixed) complete the hikes

that will be scouted by Chris Davenport. Dori Poles (bamboo poles) will be

placed at the top and bottom of each hike and participants will need to go

through in order for their hike or run to count. The top three teams with the

best times to complete the hikes and complete the course and checkpoints will

be awarded prizes. Participants will be using a Flaik GPS device to track

everything. Teams can ski anywhere once they have completed the designated

bowls for extra points. There will also be other categories any team can win

after completing the designated bowls; Fastest Hike, Most Vertical, Most Runs

and Most Lift Rides. Official after party after the event with beers donated by

Rogue Beer (for those old enough to indulge). Cost is $75 per team, plus the

cost of lift tickets, which will be available at discount for all competitors

the day of. Flaik GPS's will be providing real time stats on each team, and

each participant will receive a Helly Hansen Lifa piece. Registration is

limited to 100 teams per date, so lock down your spot. Approximately 48 hours

after purchasing your selected location, you will receive an email from

Backcountry.com with a link to finish your registration. This registration page

must be completed in order to participate. If you do not see this email in your

inbox, please check your spam folder as it may have automatically been deflected

there. All racers will be given a race number they need to wear during the

comp. This item is not returnable or exchangeable, all sales final; this item

is excluded from discounts.

February 27-March 5: Nissan

Pro Freeriders Board (PFB) to host four main events that make up the 2009

Freeride World Tour. Squaw Valley USA

has been named the exclusive North American stop, and will join Sochi (Russia),

Tignes (France), and Verbier (Switzerland)

as hosts of the 2009 Freeride World Tour. When the world’s top freeriders

descend on Squaw for the Nissan Tram Face –Squaw Valley

09, the valley will erupt with street parties, live music and a week of

celebrations not to be missed.
 
why is the big mountain battle so expensive? So pretty much you hike up a face and then have to ski a certain line as quickly as possible?
