Communism vs. Capitalism

Where did I say children didn't work throughout history?

Besides. I went to catholic school. We didn't have history classes growing up, I learned that shit on my own lol.

And there WAS public outcry... The only reason it didnt skyrocket in price all the way back up was because people just downright coulnt afford what prices they had put on Kerosene... People were still bitching about it though.... And besides... if no competitors could even keep up (or in this case, they couldn't even get off the GROUND), then doesn't quality usually get worse when there's no or little competition? Making the whole capitalist end of things non-existent?

For the love of god woozy, brevity, learn it. For someone who claims to have a degree in economics your post is pretty disheartening.
You have some absolutely asinine statistics. Please state a source and the year they came from and I will give a reasonable explanation for the numbers. Trickle down theory has lost its gripping in the world ever since there was outsourcing, but that is another paradox in its entirety.
Your examples of monopolies simply take on an issue with relatively little barriers to entry. A bit different story now instead of when the economies of the world were very simplistic. Take a look at how many have been busted up that would severely fuck the consumer...want a list? Also your standard of living comparison doesn't explain the dominance of many other countries over the US in a lot of aspects of well-living. Health, education, etc. You know there were two world wars right? That tends to decline the standard of living really well.
If by help the poor out you mean investing in human capital and tangible investments rather than absurd amounts of derivatives on international markets then YES I guess I am crazy.
If you want to pull out simplistic examples I could tell you hundreds of inventions from philanthropists who merely wanted to better the life of everyone else. This wasn't a majority but merely a consideration.
Obviously a capitalistic economy has had great implications on our spurred growth. But the assertion of your tirade that it is everything and anything and a lassiez faire approach is to be had makes people like me who have studied the subject extensively look on with disgust. The breadmaker was an awesome analogy, but is not made for the real world.

Is this really a debate? Jesus Christo. Communism is a good theory but isn't applicable to reality. Capitalism, or a slightly toned down version of capitalism makes more sense in the real world. Governments should not control all arms and methods of capitalist business-it just doesn't work as well.

F*CK I LOVE WOOZY AND OH MY GOD I AM GOING TO CHOKE MYSELF IF ONE MORE PERSON SUGGESTS LIMITING CAPITALISM AS THE SOLUTION. IF YOU LIMIT CAPITALISM OR "MODERATE" IT THEN IT ISN'T CAPITALISM ANYMORE because it isn't a true free market. You can't intervene in the "free market" then still call it a "free market" then complain about the failure of the "free market."

dingo sean you are a rambling idiot, and your stupid paragraph about space is irrellevant because getting humans into space wasnt a life or death necessity in the sixties. maybe if the tax money that was used to fund nasa was given back to companies like glaxosmithkline then we would have a fucking cure for cancer by now. maybe one day your stupid ass will get cancer, and you can think how happy you are that somebody played around on the moon instead of saving your worthless government subsidized life

i havent really read the thread but heres what i think
communism IN THEORY is the best way for countries to run themselves. problem is a brain surgeon is not going to be happy making the same amount of money or being the exact same as someone who works at a gas station and dropped out of highschool. that is why communism wont work. people are not going to be willing to become some of the things we really need, such as doctors, when they could drop out of highschool and be just as well off as if they went to med school for 12 years or however long.

the other problem is that there always has to be one person with more power than others. if everyone has the same rights then chaos will ensue. there always has to be someone in charge of other people or the world will just fall into anarchy

and mitchpee i love jacking off to your eloquent language. You think your stupid eloquence is going to make the shit you serve taste better? not anyone on this site is stupid buddy. Smart people go invent shit and engineer shit and get paid big bucks for it. Stupid people like you waste their time mastering the art of sounding smart (when in reality your not) so you can convince the invetors and engineers to pay their money to you, money that in reality they deserve every last bit of and you dont deserve a single penny of. Bitch pee do you hate bill gates? Why dont you just not buy windows then? and investing in human capital so that we make genetically stupid people s$art is as feasable as spending billions in china teaching asians to be tall. Do you get that mitch

Or did i not put it eloquently enough for you and obamas stupid asses to understand it?

fine, i shalst dip my feet in thine cold waters...

Those in power would have to be at the same level as everyone else, or else it would reinforce it for those in power. That is where most communism today falls apart.
Equality for all means exactly that, equality for ALL. There are no favorites in this game.

in an ideal world, if every single citizen cooperated, communism would be a better system. however, usually communist nations are run by power-hungry dictators, who take what should be for everybody for themselves. and captalism is just corrupt.

if we broke the world down into much smaller nation states then communism might have a chance. people could work together and support their neighbors but nobody wants to carry someone they've never met who doesn't give a shit about them and lives thousands of miles away.

No because that's the thing: nobody is in power in real communism. Think of it like a democracy, because that's what it is. A completely pure democracy.
It's probably impossible to ever have a system with it or a sustainable one at that, but if you are at least going to denounce it know what you are denouncing.
I like talking about these things and communism because it is an idealistic thing. It's not to say I want the system to be in place or that it will necessarily create things to better our society, but it broadens perspective. It's called dialectical thinking and it's what brought the idea up in the first place. However, most people aren't willing think about issues past what they hear on the news or in some ridiculous high school lecture.

yay communism! communism is the end of dreams, the end of hope, the end of looking forward to a better life. Communism is the sad decay of humanity and the end of the freedom to achieve. there is no tom wallish in communism

even if communism worked, it wouldnt be half as good of a system as capitalism. everybody is not equal, and not everyone should be treated equally. some people are lazy, some people mean, violent, stupid, some work hard, are nice, care about others etc.. good hard working people deserve success, lazy ass holes do not.
if everyone put in the same amount of effort, had the same attitude, treated everyone the same, were all equally as intelligent, then communism would work..

i disagree. in an ideal world everyone would not have equality of outcome.

"It is the Communists’ intention to make people think that personal success is somehow achieved at the expense of others and that every successful man has hurt somebody by becoming successful. It is the Communists’ aim to discourage all personal effort and to drive men into a hopeless, dispirited, gray herd of robots who have lost all personal ambition, who are easy to rule, willing to obey and willing to exist in selfless servitude to the State."

-Ayn Rand

still, men and women are not equal, different races are not equal, different ages are not equal, etc. im not saying one race or sex is better than the other, im just saying that we have different qualities, skills, and attitudes. so what we can do to help our nation, community, whatever, what we want to do, how well we can do it, etc. is all different. and treating everyone as if the work we do is equal to everyone else, is just a horrible idea.

thats actually a very interesting point... but, should we treat one person worse simply because they are not capable of doing as important of work as another? certainly you must think not. i think that there are some things that work great that are socialist or communist, but some things that dont work at all. for example, everybody, from the homeless to the the rich should get a health care plan. maybe basic, allowing for paid upgrades, but still, sick people should not be ignored. income, however, should not be government controlled.

its not us treating somebody worse, its themselves not caring enough or trying hard enough to have the life they want. they are putting themselves in the position to get treated worse, not the government, not anyone else. everyone has an equal chance to succeed and get what they want, and if someone cant do that, thats their fault.if you work hard for a better life, you should have a better life.
I personally do not think everyone should get a healthcare plan. i really really do not want to get into this, since this isnt what this thread is about. but good health should be your responsibility. id like to get into this more to defend my thinking, but its just going to end up getting off track so i wont.
and yes i know some people are born into a horrible family, bad situations, things happen that they cant control, that may make it near impossible to get a good job and succeed. but IMO thats a risk you need to accept if you want freedom, and its a risk im willing to take.

shit i hardly make any money, no health insurance, basically live off ramen noodles, my parents arent helping me out. i have a very good chance of having a shitty life, but im ok with that. i still dont want others paying for my healthcare, even though it would help me out. and i deserve to be in the situation im in, its my fault that i have the shitty job i have.

Communism works great on paper, or in a small society. The fact of the matter though is that it cannot work due to human nature. The reason capitalism works is because everyone is doing their job for themselves. A farmer doesn't farm so you can eat. He farms so he can feed his children. He does it for himself, whereas communism is all about the state. Simple economics.
