Commodification of Our sport.

Yo, so I found this song and the associated spiel about how big companies penetrate skate culture when they see there's money to be made. Nike's one of the biggest culprits. The song is pretty self explanatory. I dont think skating needs these companies exploiting it. Luckily there are smaller companies like chocolate and girl still making skateboards for skateboarders by skateboarders.

But relating this to our sport. You can see it happening big time, for example Mcdonalds and the fucken US Navy have been sponsoring events. I personally dont think this is cool. I love the fact that our sport is driven by passionate skiers starting all sorts of small companies for skiers, by skiers. Lets keep it that way. Don't you think it makes for a more authentic, passionate, quality driven industry rather than a mass produced quantitative driven industry. I just dont want to see skiing sucked down the same drain as many other sports. Keep it real.

What do you think?

It is both good and bad. No matter what though, it is inevitable. Big companies bring big money and more exposure. However, big companies have been sponsoring skiing from the start. Lots of old events were put on by companies like Paul Mitchell or Visa. It is just becoming more prevalent.

Well the skaters follow what's real and true to them and the sport, like deathwish and shakejunt right now. They're not all wearing the big brand name designer "skate shoes" sold at west 49, they're supporting the companies that actually support them.

it's late did that even make sense
