Commercial Videography

So I have been watching TV and seen a few commercials from local businesses around my area. I think it would be awesome to develop a commercial for these businesses, but how do I go about doing that? How do I get my name out there to do commercials? Do I email someone from the company and see if they are interested in having a commercial and tell them that I would love to make one for them?

From the money side of things, I am not looking for any compensation! I would just love to help out a local company.

Does anybody have any experience with this? Some of the commercials that I have seen from local businesses are good, but I feel as if I could do much better. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!!

Cold call/email, walk in or use your connections. Using your connections is the easiest and is the most likely to get you work

That's really all you have to say. Get a piece of sample work with decent relevance to the sort of work you're after, send a few emails, and make a few calls.
