Colorado vs Utah

I think that both are sick places. The only issue with colorado is unless you live in one of the resort towns, you are looking at a good hour and a half to 2 hour drive to the resort and a major gamble coming out. I lived in Denver and would get up at 6am to go every weekend. One time it took me 8 hours to get home because of the traffic. I moved to Utah so that I could live in a city and still be able to ski within an hour up and back. For the reason of accessibility I have to give it to Utah. There beer does however suck ass. I wish that Denver was located where SLC is.
 
its not uncommon to have a 3-4 hours exit out of little cottonwood canyon. andi ts 10 miles. its also not uncommon for the canyon to be closed and you are sitting in traffic somewhere waiting to come and go. utah isnt all glory and no traffic. Also why would you want denver where slc is? so 1000000 more denver weekend warrior joeys would be up at snowbird?
 
If you've ever been to Mammoth, you know it is in the middle of fucking no where. Doing it for a season would be really cool IMO. Doing it for over a year, it gets old. I like mountain biking a lot so I could easily make it through the Summer as well. It lacks a lot of basic shopping and even the shipping takes a day or two longer just because of its rather remote location. The whole town revolves around the mountain. Everyone in the town, is there because of the mountain, Mammoth Lakes would be non-existent without the mountain there. I would do it for a season, but don't expect to do any type of school over there.
 
its true, i have never had an awesome pow day in utah. scratch that ive never had a back to back to back to back to back to back pow day in utah. ;)

utah sucks, dont go there.. not to mention the mountains are flat, no snow, nothing. dont ever waste your money going there....

Yeah it's like a small community college. I actually met a kid that went there, he was pretty cool and enjoyed it, but said it was about time he did something real with his life and went to a 4-year school.
 
It actually is uncommon. However, Its about 2 hours to the resort and about 3 to 4 hours back every time in Denver. Like I said the skiing in Colorado is sick, but you cant honestly argue that the drive is comparable.
 
Utah might have better powder but the difference between the powder in both places is nowhere near as big as the difference between the parks. Going somewhere like Copper Mtn gives you the best of both. I agree Summit's pow isn't as tasty as Eagle county but it's only 45 minutes between the two and as long as you don't live in Denver you don't have to deal with the traffic really. If you like pow better live in Vail/Avon/Edwards....If you prefer park live in Breck/Frisco/Silverthorn. It's all on the same pass (accept Copper) so you can mix it up as you like.
 
i just have a quick question which would be better for skiing in December and, how is the snow in december in both utah and CO compared to in february, cuz i want to go in february but my dad is convinced we should go in december
 
favorite resort telluride, CO for sure, all around amazing resort (although it is changing thanks to the f*cktard Dave Riley). + it's close to Silverton, CO (epic snow) and wolf creek, CO (amazing pre-season snow)
 
Colorado needs to build a train for the ski resorts. A monorail or something to take care of I-70's mess.

I-70 isn't as prone to avalanche problems as say Little Cottonwood Canyon Road so maybe they could make that happen.

LCC and I-70 both suck quite often though really.

I totally agree I-70 needs some serious work, it would be so sick if there was a high speed train that went to summit then you could bus it to the resorts.

A little off topic but one of my buddies got a DUI in Utah. He worked it out and would have to do some jail time but they said they would let him do it in Aspen. However when he went to do his time it was X games and all the jail cells were taken. So he went back to Utah to talk to the judge and the judge arrested him on site and sentenced him to 2 months. During his time he was in a cell with a kid who was a HS football star and from what he said a good kid. The kid had been in jail for 2 months for drug running, apparently he got talked into driving a pound of weed through Utah by a friend. First offense, and it had been 2 months with 1 phone call per week and no trial date. The kid killed himself in his cell, my buddy found him.

So I pretty much hate Utah for that reason, and I hate religion so...

On a lighter note I would say that even though Denver is a little far from the hills it is still a super tight city with a ton of shit to do. I have been skiing in the morning and playing Frisbee that afternoon with shorts on.

 
Deepest pow of the year was the december dump, feb was pretty dry so it's hit or miss. no crowd in december unless you go christmas
 
You hate utah because people make stupid ass decisions? Come on, step one don't get arrested, whoa utah just got so much better, wait, any place would suck if you got arrested.
 
^ thats a pretty harsh sentence for first offense, if im not mistaken and from what ive heard Utah HATES weed. Everyone here in Colorado knows it too whenever they visit to be smart about it. Utah is strict in general about everything i mean in the liquor stores you are buying your booze from a registered cop. I understand people make mistakes and get caught, but Utah does not seem reasonable about their punishments. But I will applaud Utah for having some of the best fucking skiing in the country, hands down.
 
stfu washington is terrible not even worth mentioning. Colorado is the best place ever. Everyone should go there. Nothing but rain in washington. Fucking horrible state with horrible people horrible cities and god damn washington sucks ass~

And I was just saying that law enforcement in Utah is religiously motivated and feels a lot like a foreign country with all the shitty fucking Mormons.

Please stop while you're not that far behind. While there may be a few harsher penalties for breaking the law, the laws in place are on par with any other states' laws across the country. But if the penal system is what is keeping (from what it sounds like) criminals like yourself from moving here, then I am all for the laws to stay in place.

But just an FYI, my roommate recently got a DWI and the repercussions do not seem any more strict than other places I have lived.

And please, spend some time with individual mormons before you use terms like "shitty fucking mormons." Actually, better yet, just stay the fuck out of the state of Utah.

1) never said I was a criminal, just like to have kegs and get drunk every once in a while as well as have fun at bars.

2) Spent a lot of time in Utah, I actually lived in Vernal for 2 months. I know Vernal is not a ski town and is super conservative but the Mormons I met there were terrible people. Also any Mormons I have met anywhere else judge and are exclusive and brainwashed fools. I know its not fair to classify a who people but I am, hey life isn't fair and Mormons are shitty.

3) My friend got a DUI because he was partying late at lake Powell and had his car running with the radio turned up and if you are drunk with the keys in the ignition DUI. So as you can see he is not really a criminal either.

I would say that as far as geography goes and skiing Utah wins hands down and you guys would win flat out if those Mormons would have figured out that the great salt lake was not the Ocean and kept going to the coast. But Park City is pretty sick. My parents actually lived in Utah for a long time I was almost born there and they tell me horror stories about the Mormons. So ya kid, the shitty ass fucking Mormons ruin your state.

but feb also had the base from nov, dec, and jan.

and late march / early april dumped huge too.

december isn't bad

still, if you had to bet when the snow was the best and most terrain open, feb would be the better choice.

colorado is better i lived there for 15 years. go to colorado.

There's actually no more food in Colorado and the smog is unbearable. Like, I'm wearing a gas mask as I type. You might not like it here. There's also a, newly-installed, snow shield to ensure that we get as much kayaking opportunities as possible. So yeahhhhh
 
My opinion, coming from someone who lives in neither place, but has visited resorts in both states (Summit Co., SLC area, southern CO):
Powder- UtahPark / pipe- Colorado, although I'm not really qualified to comment too much on this stuff, since I rarely venture into the park or pipe.
Terrain- easily Utah, although I'll make an exception for Silverton, and Wolf Creek for the fun factor.
Distance from the hills- Utah. Still, you're gonna deal with heavy traffic in the Cottonwoods and on I-70.
I'll add that the public transportation option to the resorts in the SLC vicinity is a very good one, and I do utilize it. No rental car necessary, picks you up right downtown, and if you get an early start, you're still up on the hill pretty early.
