Hey NS,

As the snow this season is slowly accumulating, its always good to get your head thinking the right way and brush up on your avalanche skills. If you've never taken an avalanche safety course before, this is an awesome way to open your eyes to whats out there.

This Tuesday night (11/29) from 7-9:30PM, Friends of Berthoud Pass will be teaching a FREE avalanche safety awareness clinic in HUMN 1B50 on the CU-Boulder Campus. In an informal classroom setting they provide backcountry travelers with an overview of avalanche awareness, avoidance, forecasting and rescue. Topics such as route selection, hazard minimization, best practices, preparedness and terrain analysis are covered in a 3-hour presentation. The class begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public and FREE of charge. No registration is required. Donations are gratefully accepted and benefits their grassroots avalanche education program.

These types of awareness classes are really great, especially with a burgeoning crowd of BC pow-hungry skiers. That said (without trying to be a negative nancy) to those of you out there who may attend this one, or any other clinics out there, please don't treat these short clinics/classes as a substitute for an AIARE Level 1 or something, because proper on-snow training is really important.

^ well said. It's an eye opener and they stress that their class is not a substitute for an AAIRE Level 1. Its basically an Intro to a Level 1 Class or a great review for those who have taken their level 1.
