This summer, I briefly checked out Lewis and Clark, Reed, Willamette, OSU, and UO, along with some schools in northern California. Got some tours, but I was wondering if anyone could give any input on the schools, teachers, skiing, etc. Of all the schools, I think I liked Lewis and Clark the most. Any input would be great.

i went to OSU....not that great! Lewis and Clark is a great school(from what i heard), its a pretty laid back scene and has some great facilities!

OSU is pretty nice. I enjoy the campus and surrounding area, but corvallis is pretty damn boring. The rec center Dixon is really nice with some of the best facilities, nice pool, bike tune-up center, rock climbing gym. and there's a bus that goes to mt. hood on the weekends during winter term. there's also a ski class that goes to mt. bachelor during winter term on thursdays. I've enjoyed my time at OSU but am looking forward to getting done

i was thinking about L&C but 1500 kids is too small for me. i'm considering university of portland though.

A quick look at Humboldt, and then I got tours at UC Berkley and Stanford. I'm pretty sure L&C has closer to 2,000, but I could be wrong. What's University of Portland like?

it's a catholic school, but from what i've head it's real chill. it's got 3500 kids, it's a good school, awesome campus, legit D1 basketball and soccer. that's about all i know, i'm gonna visit and spend the night in the dorms eventually.

and berkely's really sick. i thought about applying but i want out of california.

I live right next to lewis and clark and all i can say is hippies, hippies, hippies. nearly entirely hippies, so if your kinda hippy i guess its all good.

Hmmm, I'd probably want something closer. I really have no idea what I want to do, so it's tough to narrow it down. I really liked Stanford, but again that's far from skiing.

if you want a real good school with good skiing check out university of washington. it's probably my top choice at this point. it's ranked like 35 in the country if that means anything to you.

Do not go to Reen unless you go and visit for a while there, I grew up across the street Reed and it's a very different type of college experience it seams then the normal.

What skiing is close to UW, is it Stevens Pass? I live in Montana and could easily go to Montana State University which might be the best ski college anywhere, but I want to go to a better school. And I'm not sure if I could handle so many people at UW.

snoqualmie pass is 45 minutes with a decent park

and yeah stevens pass is about 1 hour and a half, but arguably the best mountain in washington.

and i agree with the size thing, it's a bit intimidating. but i think once you get a solid group of friends it's legit.

if going farther isnt an issue, check out utah state, badass college, right next to a ski resort, professors take off all the time for pow days, etc

Yea UW is a world class institution and is consistently ranked in like the top 20 schools in the country and it's close to skiing. Lewis and Clark is also a good school (I live about 5 mins away) but its not the fact that its small, its just theres not a ton to do immediately around the campus (having a car though would make this irrelevent). Being in college though I can say really its the people that make the experience not necessarily how much stuff there is to do.

That makes sense. But I would probably bring my old Outback for skiing purposes and such. Also looking at Colorado College or CU

My dad went to Lewis and Clark Law and he got a great education, but its small and expensive. I go to PSU, its the biggest university in Oregon, its downtown which is awesome, it has a diverse population of students, its cheap, and it has an active ski and snowboard club with weekly rides to hood and overnight trips throughout the northwest. PSU is easy to get in to and it is as challenging as you want it to be, but if you really care about your education and you dont care about tuition, Reed or Lewis and Clark would be be a better choice.

My friend went to Lewis & Clark and hated it, moved home. I, on the other hand, am loving my time here at UO quite a bit. Don't go to PSU, you're waaay better off going to UNReno over PSU, trying to find an affordable place to live in portland that doesn't look like a gilded age tenement will be quite the challenge. I mean, Hood is legit and all, but it doesn't compare with the access to all of Tahoe that UNR has. And not to go off on ya, but you must think you're some kind of genius to just get admitted to places like Stanford or Berkeley. I know very smart kids that couldn't get into either, Stanford especially.

I never said I thought I could get admitted to Stanford or Berkley. I just said I loved what I saw of Stanford, and would love to go there, not that I could. How often do you get to ski at UO?

Ive grown up in the NW and attend UO, which is pretty dope, and im pretty familiar with the schools around here. UO is dope if u party a lot and smoke hella dank, pretty far from the mnts tho. (i hit bachie and its a good 2 1/2 hrs). OSU, the school sux, but they got hoes and they can party, not a big ski/snowboard seen tho. COCC in bend is dope cause its super close to the mnt. but kinda hard to meet hella people in bend cause they kick it with their home "cliques". And portland is sick all around, great city, about 1 - 1 1/2 hr (depends on if u mob) away from hood whcih is pretty close. i grew up in salem, dont fuck with willamette!!!

I really hope youre not serious. science/engineering school trumps all.

dont mind us here at osu while we scientists work to solve americas and

the worlds problems. you guys at uo, well, business art school so

enough said (of course I am generalizing here).

and please, if you are a uo alum, please dont type like a 14 yr old

trying to seem thug over the internet, it just makes you and your

university look 'hella' bad

OP, again, come to OSU cascades if you are that intent on skiing and being in oregon

I don't really keep track, so far I've only been up once because of how busy I've been. UO is about 2 1/2 hours from bach but we use to make the drive. Now I have a pass at hood and stay up in govi and portland with people I know. I've got my winter schedule setup to give me 4 day weekends, giving me 3-4 days of skiing every week with 2 1/2 hours of driving each way. If you know the right people you can do a lot of skiing. There's even Willamette Pass which is a small resort only an hour away from UO. Its nothing much, but on a powder day its a blast because of the low crowd factor.
I mainly came here because I have many good friends who came here and I really liked the place every time I came to visit Eugene while I was going to JC near Tahoe. Its been a fun time so far for sure, if I hadn't come here I'd be bored as fuck going to UCDavis. If you're trying to ski a lot, go to OSU Cascades (even though the classes and majors are quite limited, it is an extension school after all). I've heard some rumors about Cascades even closing?
If you really want to come to Oregon, I'd suggest going to COCC and getting your feet wet. Bend is a sick place to live and its very close to Bachelor. Establish a good group of friends there and when the time comes you can decide to go to UO or OSU Cascades. Even going to UO the drive really isn't that bad and if you have a homie you can stay with overnight in Bend it makes it like nothing.

No shit. don't talk smack on OSU when you can't write (and do realize that UO's busines school was designed/built by OSU alum) Back to the OP, As Salcedo mentioned one of the benefits of going to school in Oregon is meeting cool people who like to ski and you'll usually be able to go up a lot. Depending on who you meet you can probably connect with people who have houses in bend or govy which make weekend trips possible
