from an e-mail from the president of SCCSC...

"...any college can have men's and women's freestyle ski teams and can compete under the USCSA as sanctioned collegiate competitions. Each team will need to register in the same fashion as their alpine, nordic and snowboard brethren at $125 per discipline (male and female teams are different disciplines). All athletes must fit the minimum academic eligibility requirements outlined by NCAA division 2 policies.

Currently the USCSA is defined by the three disciplines (Nordic, Alpine, and Snowboard) and each falls under the management of the VP of each of these three aformentioned disciplines. Freestyle skiing will be governed under the policies established by the VP of snowboarding in conjunction with the full-board or the Executive board when the full-board is not in session. What does this mean, you ask, is that all issues that arise should be addressed to the VP of snowboarding because the events will take place in conjunction with the existing snowboard events until a critical mass is reached within the organization. My hypothesis is that it will take 2 years to reach this critical mass and at this time, we can petition to have a fourth VP position established (VP of Freestyle Skiing).

We will be having an exhibition at the 2008 USCSA National Competition at Sunday River. More details will follow as to the event specifics in the near future."

So all you kids in college, if your school does not have a team, form one!!!

yea, and then you can get randomly drug tested and kicked out of school, i think i'll pass.

SCCSC as in Southern California?? What a joke. They didn't count our freestyle points for anything this year, just because we (USC) won all the freestyle comps, and they didn't want our team to win based on that. They also tried to disqualify my (winning) halfpipe run because I wasn't using poles. At least there's nowhere for them to go but up.

word on the street is that won't be happening... or it didn't in a "trial" run with some California schools this past season

to all those who are wishing that their school had a team, this is your exscuse to go to your athletics, or rec sports departments and get one started. drug tests would happen if it was like soccer or lax or some other 'serious' sport, but this is skiing

take an initiative support skiing everywhere by bringing it to your campus, the more schools that participate the more legit freeskiing becomes as a sport, the better it'll look on transcrpits and you can be proud to say i was a college ski bum... on a team!

Dont you need to have 3 pieces of equipment to finish the run?

How'd you guys get around it?

only problem is you cant get any free equipment or money from a company because of your sport you participate in... so for everyone who is hooked up with a company can kiss that goodbye if you want to join your team

instead of complaining that your school doesn't hsve a team, be proactive and talk to your athletic department or your club sports/rec sports department.

haha alpineplease, cheech is basically on the usc team... maybe if lmu made a team you guys would have a shot, altho im not joining next year due to a certain huge deuchbag and a lack of funds.

this is sick...i wish they had this when I was on Cal Poly's race team.. but that was long ago..things are changing in a good way! If you are in college now...go for this!

we shouldstart one jack...but if drug tests are really involved id think our team would be dismantled completly after the first test

yea.. you tards who dont go to college to ski are gonna be having a bunch of fun when there is no snow up there anymore and you officially are qualified to work--- NOWHERE! you'll just have to learn to grass ski. i think this is sick.. im at portland state right now.. and they dont have this.. i took a class from portland community though that takes you skiing every sunday for the price of one credit.. and then i just dithed the "class".. but a team would be 1000 times better// i hope to transfer to CU boulder real soon.. after i spend a seaswon as a bum.

You can still set your schedule around skiing and be a successful student at the same time. Pretty much all my friends do it. You would have to be an idiot not to be able to do that.

word. I am graduating in three years, and I ski over 100 days a season. It's just up to you to get your shit done and make your schedule work.

word.. im in college and ski all the time too.. its a retarded idea not to go to college. but its retarted to just go to college and not work either.. otherwise you get a BA or BS or whatever and find out you can't even get a job cause you have no job experience.

that would be gay if they made it formal like having practices and a coach that are exactly like a soccer team. no freedom would blow

you don't have to worry about that. our ski team house was the most unregulated, informal house ever. and we didn't even have coaches.

At CU, we have coaches. It's not structured like a soccer team as you alluded to. Show up for training in you want. Don't if you don't want to. Most kids join, however, because they do want some coaching a great group of people to ski with.
