So im leaving this fall to go to college and my mom is already gathering stuff for me. At first i was annoyed cause its still early july, but than i realized that she will buy me whatever i "think" i'll need. So i got a laptop and bed sheets, and someother lame shit, but i need ideas on what else is essential? And what else i should just buy since she is paying?

Get her to buy all your books for class! That will save you SO much $$$$$$$. Trust me, that is one huge load of dough you will drop.

^truth.

if your dorm is going to be tile floor you might wanna try to get a carpet for it(depending on how messy you are)

other stuff you might not think of would be stuff for showering (dont foget sandals or your gunna get foot herpies...and no one likes foot herpies)

warm soft comforter, girls love that shit.
Febreeze, college dorms smell liek ass.
flip flops for the shower if its shared.
umm, speakers for your laptop, for optimal tv show watching.

mini fridge? depending on the setup
laundry detergent
and a whole bunch of food that never goes bad, trust me you will eat it all at some point, even the can of chunky chilli you never thought you would

If you have a closet, get hangers early cause for some reason they sell out of EVERY store on the day of move in. You will be suprised how nice it will be to have a shit ton of hangers when everyone else is lookin around like an idiot.

Also, if you are going to school somewhere hot, get a tower fan, that saved my life.

definitely some baller speakers with a nasty sub. then move in day you can blast some shit and leave your door open, meet so many people without having to walk around.

another thing to go with febreze, I found that those lysol air fresheners that spray ever so often work really well. each can lasts for a while and you can set them to spray every nine, eighteen, or thirty-six minutes.

some legit speakers (I go to thrift stores and get the floor speakers cause there cheap sound good and loud as hell), a ballin tv (flat screen is a must 27" is pretty prime for a freshman dorm) then get a receiver so you can hook all your shit up to your speakers. I'm sure you already have an xbox. I'd get a book safe or something lockable because there are mad grimey people living in freshman dorms and you gotta protect your shit. and get mad posters and cover every inch of your walls because they feel like jail cells if all the walls are still mad white

I found myself wishing I had tupperware to put food in, so I could throw it in my fridge.

I'll tell you what you don't need - silverware, bowls, cups, plates, etc. You can steal these very easily from the dining hall.

Some things that made my life a ton easier in college
Tool box/setpopcorn bowllittle book shelfcarpeting for sure (look at a hardware store that might be getting rid of some for cheap and cut it for the size of your room)mini fridgedoor hanger thing for to hang your towels on a doorpretty much any organizational thing that will save you roomlysol whipes or any disenfecting whipes (this ones key for cleaning)i brought a little duster cuz i hate dustStapler, tape, hole punch and plenty of computer paper for your printer
Things that are nice are posters, nice sheets n pillows, foot rest thing, bomb tv and stereo, weed, girls and booze

big ups to nomensteven for the Chi City MAYNE vid haha. love that dude...

Get a brita water filter, preferably the small ones. Its like a pitcher, and the small one is perfect to fill up a nalgene bottle. Clean water is good to have, and waterfountains are a pain in the ass to fill stuff with...

haha i think its funny that soo many people have reccomended the "LOUDEST speakers you can find."

Unless you want to be the douche who blasts the music that nobody wants to hear on your floor, wait until you get a house NOT in dorms for that. Computer speakers are the loudest youll want in such a small room.

Oh yeah. Loud music attracts campus security. So in my opinion, speakers are a no-go unless you want your parties constantly broken up by the po.

haha this is a great thread. I was talking with my friend and he if you were playing beer pong the AR's that walked around everyonce in awhile could hear the clink of the cups. He said they tried using paper cups and stuff. Did any of you guys have a good way to play beer pong as quietly as possible?

our RA dicked us over one night for playing pong, its hard to do quietly.

but use styrafoam cups, play water cups (so you can clean quick if needed), towels EVERYWHERE, Loud Music, and place a matress against your door for soundproofing. And don't forget to take care of the beer smell that can seep into the hall.

an alternative is playing 3 man, get u drunk fast and its fun as hell.

well some RA's are probably chill, but then some are those annoying kids that never drink and think its bad etc. So if they hear someone playing pong they know drinking is involved so they want to enforce the rules and make you stop. Yeah hopefully the RA's will be chill at Seattle U. next year at my dorm.

the best way to stay out of trouble is to make a effort to get to know and be nice to the RA's. i got out of trouble countless number of times because the RA's and hall coordinator were cool with me. Most kids are stupid and act like assholes to these "authority figures" but if you treat them well they will return the favor.

THIS

i went to my bros college (plattsburg) and they had a room where they all sat around and played super smash bros. goldeneye and mario cart

remember to bring the basic shit everyone always seems to forget.

pencils, pens, ruler, calculator, tape, stapler etc.

And i recommend a desk lamp, and a floor lamp. If your dorm has lights like mine did, you'll feel like you're in an office all the time and get sick of it after 2 days. And a desk lamp is just good to have.

And bring one of those fuckin...uh shit what are they...those little spray mop things. My roommate had one. I thought he was a dumbass because he kept it in his closet all year. But then on move out day when we had to clean up, the mop thing might as well have been jesus. It did nothing but help us until we finally put it through too much, and it died.

And as prepared as you are, there will always be some stupid thing that slips through, so be ready to have to replace or buy something.

Hahah me and my roommate were definitely those guys, but only during the day, like you said, blasting music after 8 is just going to get you in trouble for drinking.

But, if you have enough room in your dorm for a couch, get one, its so clutch.

Definitely a tool box.

As mentioned earlier, canned goods, foods that'll last basically forever.

Have a small overngiht bag, stuff with toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth wash, and deoderant for those one night stands.

lamp

foldable clothes basket (throw it under the bed when you dont need it)

fan

posters

ski magazines for your bathroom, if it is just a small one for your room

power strip

surge protector

all your chargers... ipod, phone, batteries

and dont forget your ski stuff

I'm not going to college to next year but, lets talk laptops. What does everyone use. Does anyone have a macbook air, it looks like a nice thing to have since its really small and light. maybe you get an extra screen like someone mentioned in a previous post for your room. But it's small size looks like a plus to me. Even though it doesn't have a disc drive, I really haven't seen anybody do anything do important with a disc besides games or music. But lets here others opinions.

i see absolutely no point in the macbook air. you could buy a disc drive that can be used with a usb for that, but really? its an overpriced pound of metal and plastic that is only good for writing papers and browsing the internet. you really cant add anything to it either.

i suppose if you travel a lot though... i just think a netbook would be better

Get a dry-erase calendar and/or bulletin board to keep your business straight. Seriously, I'm like the least organized person ever and this was one of the best things I bought for school. It makes it really easy to keep track of tests, due dates, work schedule, bands coming to town, parties, whatever.

A laptop lock is a good idea too, never know who you can trust.

dry erase board for your door. youll get a funny comment or drawing once in a while, but it lets people know where they can reach you if you arent around

all i've ever seen on those are either inside jokes girls have, or penises.

but sometimes you get the rare elaborate drawing which is usually hilarious. well worth bringing
