Collarbone healing time

so i broke my collarbone 2 weeks ago and cant ski for the next little while which is pretty shitty. but one of the doctors told me 3 weeks of healing time till its 80-90% then another doctor told me 6 weeks till its 80-90%. the break is right through the bone but its stayed in place. who has broken theyre collarbone before and how long did you take out from skiing?

Cracked my collarbone and it took 6 weeks but go with what your doctor says. Don't want it to happen again and make it worse.

broke it two times personally, never needed surgery but waited 4-5 weeks to make sure. friend of mine skied after 4 weeks, broke it again, rested another 4, broke it again and then needed surgery.it's different from person to person. no fracture is the same, just go with what your doctor said. it's hard but it's the safe way!

Just broke mine last week, the doctor has me in a sling for 4-6 weeks and a figure 8 until its done healing. Good thing gta 5 is coming out soon

I'd take your Dr.'s advice on this one and not rush it. A few extra days isn't worth the additional damage you can do if you fall on it wrong... I broke mine in 17 places...had to have a titanium plate and 15 screws put in to piece everything back together. Full recovery was 18 weeks, Plus PT. Good Luck Bro!

wait at least 2 months man. its shitty to have to wait that long but ive broken both of mine a couple times and once was primarily because i went back skiing way too early (like 3 weeks after breaking it). after that i had to wait about 2 and a half months. play it safe and youll be glad you did.

it's pretty standard 6-8 weeks with surgery and 12-14 without. You can come back earlier but it'll snap like a twig on any impact, the bone has to properly fuse first, which takes 6 weeks, then the bone rebuilds it's structure to get back full strength for 6 more.

when did NS turn into a bunch of pussies? I have done my collar bone 4 times. Last time i did it during ski season i was skiing a week later. Granted i was taking it easy up to three weeks after but, come on, use your brain. You can ski soon after, just don't go huck yourself onto your shoulder. If you can't handle that go play video games.

12 weeks for a collarbone is absurd though. I'd give it 6 weeks tops.

No, Jenson is right you are a pussy. ^^. I broke my collarbone in 2 places, used my good hand to squeeze the bones closer together, put a sling on for a couple of weeks, and I was skiing 20 days later. Sack the fuck up.

I would def give it the time. Actually I probably wouldn't but I'm an idiot. If you do anything just be very careful. At least let it heal for a good chunk of that so it sets.

Mine took about 6 months, but that's because I had to have a couple surgeries spaced apart. I snagged 2 days of riding at the end of the season before my last surgery.

Def didn't wanna fuck it up. Be careful, play some skate, watch some ski movies, and get ready to swhen you come back.

Don't mess about with injuries I acted like jenson and 3mania when I was young worst mistake ever. Ended up fucking my shoulder to the pont where I was out for 18months and had 2 operations in that time to fix it. Getting back a few weeks early although tempting is not worth it in the long run. Let it heel up fully and don't worry a out what may happen in the future.

Mine was healed in 4-6 weeks , but the doctor who has a history of malpractice made me keep it in a sling for 3 months so he could keep getting money for useless appointments and x rays.

Good advice. Sounds like it must have really healed up well to rebreak it 3 times(or at a minimum two if it was both sides). Genius, everybody listen to this guy, bones only need 6 weeks to heal and they are good to go.

Broketeded my collar bone and it only took 3 weeks. I guess its also how long it takes to scrape the sand out your vagina.

wait awhile to make sure it's 110% healed. It's not worth rushing it. especially in a sport that you fall on your side/shoulder a lot. I broke mine one season and didn't let it heal enough and ended up breaking it 3 times that winter... and now it looks huge. Just be patient.

go up and film your homies in a couple weeks, im sure they would be stoked. Go with what the doctor says before you start really skiing again, but there is no reason why you cant go film your friends, assuming you are a good enough skier to make it to the park without dying.

When a doctor tells you 6 weeks before you can ski again, there is no magical day where your bone goes from not okay, to perfectly good. You can go ski, just dont be reckless about it. Theres a big difference between hitting jumps/rails, and standing below a rail filming your bros from a tripod.

took mine 3 weeks to fully heal. i was skiing in 4 because i didnt want to damage. but i played hockey at 3 listen to doctors

I think it really depends how bad the break is... mine sorta healed within 3 weeks, then I re-broke it skiing again :P and it took another 2 weeks time

As everyone else said just listen to what the doc says and do whatever is needed to get back to 100% (PT, not putting any stress on the bone etc.). If you find that you break it again then that probably means that you didn't allow enough time for it to fully heal. Just because it feels better doesn't mean you're back to 100% yet. It took me a good 2 months to fully recover but I broke it in 2 places so depending on you're situation it could be quicker.

Broke mine last march, did a good job too. It took that break about 3 weeks to recover where I could live comfortably (for the most part), and about 8 weeks to what I'd call 100%. The best way imo to gauge how sturdy it is is to try pushups. Obviously when you break it, you can't do pushups (shit- you can't do anything), but after about 2-3 weeks when you start to feel better, try a pushup. It won't work very well. But anywhere between 5-8 weeks you should be able to start doing them easily again, at which point I'd say it's fairly safe to ski.

But I'm not a doctor so talk to that guy before listening to anything on this website
