switch on 270 off of an s box i think thats pretty sick to me travis' run could hav won for a c box comp but it was an s rail comp and he didnt even make the whole rail

funny...i watched the whole comp, and travis slid it 270 out with the nastyest steezy steeze ever, thats why he won, the switch on 270 out didn't have the stelo, sorry kiddo

 
not to mention the switch 270 on blind side switch up too reguler switch up that he had 3/4 of the way, he didn't get the whole rail but thats plain stupid sick

 
No, the judging was really messed up. One kid I knew who was snowboarding made the whole box in qualifying (those of you who were there know only like 5 people got it in qualifying) and didn't make the finals (probably because he's not a VT local).

Yeah, your friend who did the switch on to 270 out definately should have won....no offense to Travis, I just didn't see him get the whole box in qualifying or the finals (but that double switch up was really knar).

^ exactly...either way who wins isnt a factor to me...what i am seeing a large trend occuring in this year is judges just not telling you what their judging on

example-mount snow rail jam. Kids were smoothly doing switch on to switch outs on the boxes, yet they didnt make finals in favor for a few kids throwing 5's over the entire box...like i said before, i dont care who wins and doesnt (if anything, the kids i was shooting made it further, so good for them/me)

example 2-stratton cold wars #2...there was an s box, it was a rail jam with emphasis on completing the box...if they were going to give good scoring on travis' style of run (which was nasty...some insane shit) then at the beginning of the contest they should have told the athletes that

and at Stratton, the entire judging process is VERY biased toward locals. They were throwing out tshirts in a trivia contest at the end, half the questions they didnt know the answers too...and the other half were all inside jokes that only the core stratton snowboarders knew

also, stratton should keep free skis on hand...travis won a snowboard for best male...hell it has resale value, but if your gonna include skiers that have a chance of winning, lets get them a decent prize

thats my 2 cents..i just hope its not a yearlong trend, cause at both events, ive seen 30+ pissed off kids

travis is the man and all....tears the shit out of rails...but that other kid deserved this one. yeah travis got the entire rail a few times...i don't remember if he did during finals though. those 270s to blind sided switch-up to 270 off was cool but it was like 1/2 to 2/3 down the box. that other kid did awesome with the whole rail then 270...smooth as hell. just my opinion. i'm sure next one will be a better rail or box and they'll all be going off on it.

I can't speak for the stratton comp, but I can for the Mount Snow rail jam and all of our comps afterwards. The judging is completely based on what looks awesome. For example, in the rail jam, you had kids doing switch on switch off of the boxes, but since they were so close together, it was way sketch. Instead, if you just went slow, made it as smooth as possible, and busted something in the finals, you would have done better. Now, I don't understand how a lincoln over the bottom rail didn't take it, but thats subjectivity for ya. In the future, at least at snow, creativity and originality will win a comp, nothing else and nothing more...

P.S. One of the judges at the jam is on this site as Undercarriage... So PM him...

 
hows a lincoln over a rail going to win a 'jib' comp. my definition of a rail comp is actually sliding rails and doing tricks on rails. anyone can backflip/lincoln/spin over a rail. but it takes way more skill to blind side switch up, 270 on or off etc...

The cold wars this time was lame as shit. The signup was the most poorly organized thing ever, you thought they would have learned the first time. Two stratton sponsored athletes couldn't even get in, whats up with that?! As for the prizes, deal with it, even if most people did win skis they would probably resell them regardless so stop your bitching. Brooke is mainly in charge of organizing and she is doing a damn good job. Stratton hasn't had events like this really in the past so its not surprising that its gonna take them a few times to work out the kinks.

As for next time...they are doing online registration to avoid the disasterous registration this time.

#1 - thats strattons fault for not having the klicks in the contest. pretty dumb i think since they ride for the mountain. for the rest of registration...the reason it was so screwed up was that the guy who runs it didn't show up to work that day so a sms guy that had no clue what he was supossed to do had to run it.

#2 - no one was 'bitching' about the prizes. he was simply making a comment that they should try to get something different for the skiers since they encourage skiers to enter. makes sense correct?

#3 - go smoke a bowl or something and chill the fuck out.

what duncan said is perfectly lagit, the only ones who need to 'chill and shut the fuck up' are you bitches, i agree that some judging latley has been off. as for 'laying out guidlines' you must be kidding.....if you don't know by now that judges will score a styly trick over some dirty ass shit that might be a little more tech you are an idiot. and jumping over rails at a rail jam was definatley comendable if your doing it over the stairs, the 5's and 180's over the second set were dank

i didnt go to this comp, but i've seen travis kill it at other comps, and the kids got skills. the fact that he beat out a bunch of snowboarders is pretty sick too. like this one time, i saw him making out with his hot busty blonde, and she fuckin exploded. it was sweet.

The judges arent just snowboarders. I know there was a skier judge this time and last time there was 2 skier judges I think. I was going to be the style judge but I was filming so I couldnt.

is a huge part of the judging thats why in previous jams people who have greased the rail with no style did not make finals as for amanda if you dont like how the comp was run dont come next time and everyone will be perfecty happy and less rumors will be spread. its people like you amanda bitching about every aspect of skiing that make skiing wack

yeah, i have to say those judges suck. props to travis and jake for sliding the box. we need some real non-skier slide judges. post up a little video of the session if anyone has it so we can tell who has the most steez.

whatever...i think cold wars are pretty fucked up in their planning, the woman hosting them is very disorganized...if amanda thinks skiers should win skis, i dont think people need to tell her to shut the fuck up...if skiers like winning snowboards, then good for them...i just think its shitty that alot of kids get screwed when they dont know how their being judges...they think their doing the right thing, when their really not...comps so far this season are a guessing game as to what they want to see

weds nite ill have the video up of Chris' run and you can check it out. Like i said before, travis killed the rail and im glad he won over a snowboarder...my point was that Chris was overlooked, as well as a bunch of kids that slid the entire rail and never made finals, where some snowboarders (stratton locals) never made the entire rail and were put in the finals...ask Malczyk or Curry or Wichecki and they will tell you the same, they deserved in the final round and never made it

just to clear it up, im not taking anything away from anyone, i just see it from the perspective of the kids i talked to there, and alot of them were pissed because alot of people knew they had been screwed

ya, 2 rail comps in 2 weeks and i've been bent over by these things man, every legit skier in these comps knows their all whack, it just depends on whos looks the coolest the day of the comp. i'm gonna just stick to the filming business, where the only judges of those are you thousands of 15 year old jibber butt monkeys that watch ski videos 10 hours of the day and bitch about shit on this site the other 14 hours, leaving no time for GOING TO THE MOUNTAIN, check out Right Side Productions and H30 films' videos next fall. peace

people need to understand that this is just a rail jam, and the judging is based on style, so if someome greeses the rail and lookes like a dork than they will be overlooked for picks for the finals. someone who cleared it early on with style and then is tryin tech shit in the finals may win im not saying that chris did not have style or that his trick wasnt good because im sure it was and im sure he got somthing for it. and yes an s box is not an optimal jib to have a progresional rail jam on.

also the reason why there are not skis as prizes for the skier catagory is cause when brooke called companies like salomon, 4frnt and dynastar

they would not put up skis for the contest in fact salomom gave boards for the comp but not skis.

so soxripper you can take your unknowledgeable ripping on this comp to some of the ski companies that wouldnt put up skis for this event but would put up boards

that can be example # 2 of you not knowing what is going on and not knowing why there werent skis as prizes for skiers but still talking shit

 
stratton has access to such dirt cheap skis (intrawest has a few dollars) that to get a pair of sticks for the comp would be one of the easiest things around. Maybe they should try calling some other ski companies, i know of a few different places that would be happy to help out

and alot of the kids that greased the rail with style that were skiers were left out for snowboarders who never even got the entire rail, let alone do anything with style, malczyk is a good example. he got the entire thing nice and slow with great style, yet he didnt make the finals where snowboarders who didnt hold a candle to his performance did, same with curry and wichecki

i dunno where you got the idea that soxripper was ripping on travis, shes just saying the comp is so snowboarder-centric and the judging is pretty well fucked...as for who i think who the best skier was there, that doesnt matter..im not a judge, im a filmmaker and to be honest with everyone...i really dont care who wins...i get shots, not give my opinion

look it would be easy to get a pair of skis being stratton and being rich and all but thats not how it works. the youth marketing director, the person who is in charge of creating this jam has to get sponsors for this event and get prizes through sponsors for the event.the person in charge of the event cant just get all the prizes from say pipe dreams because although it is a part of stratton and stratton does own the store it runs as a seperate buisness and is not obligated to give prizes for an event. If the store wants to sponsor an evernt then maybe they would give money or prizes for the event. Just like mt snow did not povide the money or prizes for there rail jam it was sponsored by budweiser and they put up prize money for the event. its the same thing with the us open at stratton. stratton runs the comp but does not provide the prize money, it is sponsored by a company (last year it was philips) and they provide money for the event includeing prize money and money to run the event. it is the same thing with any other competition. this is not ment as a dis to you h30 but it is to let you and others alike know that it is not because of stratton that there arent skis as prizes

 
it doesn't really make sense that salomon would be willing to donate a snowboard, but not skis.
