Alright i know this should be in regionals but its 4 am so no one is on and i cant sleep because im too stoked to go skiing and i need some help. At this point i 70 is still closed but im looking to still make it to winter park using an alternate route by iv never taken ether of these ways and i need someone to tell me if their open and which is faster. Here are links to both my options

So, going through estes park is supposed to be faster but are there any passes on this route that i need to be aware that could be closed? Mapquest lists it a seasonally closed road but i didn't here it listed as a closure in the report.
The way using rollins pass which is the shorter distance is still listed at 4 hours drive time, which makes me think its gotta be a sketchy way to go, but again i didn't here it listed under the closures.
Can anyone tell me which way i could use, i neeeeeed to make this powder day, id go crazy if i missed it, which is why this is in ski gabber, thanks for any help!

Ok, so winter park just reported 22 inches, now im kinda freakin out, anyword on i 70? I know its still closed but the cams show that they look like their plowed, fuuuck i gotta get up there somehow

haha. give you credit for the effort at least. But neither of those routes are happening. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is closed in the winter. Rollins Pass I assume is as well. Although I've been on Rollins Pass and I'm not even positive you can drive a car up over the top. I think they blocked it off. It's dirt road the entire way so its definitely not happening for you. Sorry. I haven't checked road conditions but I know there was an avalanche on berthoud. so it might be a while before they open that up.

And i didnt make it, fuck i HATE 70, maybe a day on loveland pass tomorrow could still make up for it, fuck this blows

I feel your pain. Seriously, this is the kind of snow that, if you get burried up to your knees, it might take an hour to dig yourself out. It's feels soft, but when it slides it's like quik-crete. Cuidado hombre!

Yeah chances are i'll just try to find fresh snow at the abay tomorrow rather than loveland pass if it still sketchy, which it probably will be, but im soo bummed, i couldnt sleep all night because my stoke level was too high. Waxed the donner parties, got every ready to go, called the traffic report every half hour, sat on my computer hitting refresh until i saw how much snow there was. Stayed up until about 930 and then just kinda lost hope, i cant wait to get outta school and be a ski bum, this boulder to summit trip is getting old and frustrating.

This is such bullshit I cant believe they closed I 70 last night I bet you the Highway patrol just wanted to get fresh pow and keep all the non locals out. those fuckers

There is a very good reason to why I70 was closed last night. It was snowing so hard that the plows could not keep up with the snow. You could not see more that a few houndred feet (at times less than that). There was jsut too much snow falling to have the road open. I love to hear people like you cry about it being closed, then if it does not close you cry that you got into an accident and that the roads should have been closed. Bottom line is that it was closed for your safety.

I think he means chain restriction rather than closure. But i do understand why the road was closed, it had to be done, but you need to understand that its utterly impossible for us to not be ridiculously frustrated. Closing weekend with what would have been my deepest day of the season and no way to get up, its just downright depressing.

I agree 100%. I understand for some of the major resorts its clsing weekend, but you have to weigh that with the safety of yourself and others, thats all I am saying. I am at work, I wanna ski! If you wanted to, you could have taken 285 thru Breck. There were short closures on that but nothing that would have taken too long to get you up the Summit.

Haha I was sincerely contemplating 285, but it was a serious struggle getting my hungover buddies up for a long ride, when i told them 4 to 5 hours plus people weren't happy so we just prayed for 70 to open to no avail, oh well. Hopefully we can still find some scraps tomorrow.

my buddy and i were patient this morning and waited on RT6 at I-70 for a while watchin movies on my ipod. We got through and to Abasin a little before 11 took one run (it was tracked but still soft and fun). Then the pass opened at right about 11, we met up with a bunch of buddies on the pass right then and lapped BLOWER all dayyy!! Built a little kicker off a drop. Such a sick day.

It was snowing all day and still snowing when i left so tomorrow will probably still be worth it.
