Clutch problem

So I was driving down the road today at roughly 40 mph and I pressed the gas to accelerate and the rpms shot up but the car hardly accelerated. I believe the clutch is going, because it happens in every gear. Also, I dump the clutch quite a bit (could be a result of this). Any suggestions on what to do? Car is a 2006 civic si.

sounds like you need to replace your clutch...it's not that hard to do...go buy a Haines manual from autozone or whatever auto store you have in your area...that book will tell you how to take your entire car apart and put it back together...buy the necessary parts and you should be able to do this on a saturday if you're even remotely mechanically inclined.

its still barely under warranty (45,000 miles, warrantee is 50k), and i'm getting the tranny rebuilt in a few weeks for free (warranty). should I see if they can do it together? should i drive it until then?

you're lucky. you just saved yourself a saturday and probably about $400...tell them your clutch is fucked and they should be able to do both together since they are interrelated.

Why would/should they warranty your clutch if you were driving like a jackass? It's your fault you burnt out your clutch, therefore it's your responsibility.

Sounds like you butchered your clutch driving it like an idiot. Like someone said, hopefully its under warranty.

damn dude, you must drive like an asshole.

cars usually go over 100k miles before needing to be replaced under normal driving conditions.

at 45k!?!?!? your not one of those kids that does burnouts everywhere and tries to race everyone are you?

my car does that same thing and my clutch is pretty much gone as well. but the whole car is pretty much gone i think. the whole 270k miles thing may be a large factor.

no i'm not one of those kids who does burnouts everywhere, and races/"drifits" in shaws parking lots. everytime if see those dumbasses i want to punch them in the face. i know how to drive, but i enjoy having fun. most likely the clutch won't be under warranty, but none the less, i might get a good deal if the trannys already out of the car.

yeah you will be ok, labour is the killer :(

Avoid driving the car, but if you have to, dont drive it for too long and take alot of care with your gear changes, as the clutch heats up, it will slip more

(And just to save confusion, call Automatics- Transmissions and Manuals- Gearbox's)

Yeah man I just had that happen to my GTI. I bought the car form a dealer in Chicago and 3 days later no more clutch. The mixican who had it beat the shit out of it. We took it out and there were chunks misssing. It was crazy and it only had 50K. But back to your problem your clutch is deffinatly slipping and its going to go very sooon. SO like people said avoid driving it. I picked myself up and ACT preformance stage 3 street disc clutch and an 8 pound flywheel for like 600ish. And yeah id try using a manual or if you know someone who could do it for you try that. But goood luck man.

i was gonna sell it anyways because i can't have a car in college, but i don't wanna be a dick so i want it to be in good condition. i'll probably upgrade the clutch too, and see if i can get a little more for it, cuz other than that it's flawless

Not to dog on you even more, and good to hear they're covering your clutch, but if you're doing tranny and clutch that early I seriously doubt the rest of the car is "flawless".

the transmission was a factory recall, not sure on the clutch (probably not). the interior is spotless, and the exterior has only one small circular indent (size of a dime) on the rear quarter panel. if you're talking about the engine, its always kept up to date.

Mine was really fading on my old car that had about 115k on it. How the fuck do you burn a clutch at 45k miles?

burnt clutch for sure and thats not covered under the warranty sorry. not to expensive on those cars though.

your clutch is definitely slipping. i just had the clutch and flywheel replaced on my evo this week. it set me back $2000. and clutches aren't covered under warranty. hopefully they can replace your clutch when they do your tranny. the labor might be a bit cheaper.

you got ripped off if all they did was replace your clutch and resurface your fly wheel. Evo's are cool as shit but they're also kind of janky.

wow, I didnt realise how many of you were better drivers than michael schumacher :p

Anyway, if its a factory recall on the 'trans' then that may be a reason why the clutch went so early... so blame them, kick up a fuss and see how you go!

you need a new clutch, and don't even think about doing it yourself, my cousin completely ruined a car trying to change the clutch. it went from having a broken clutch to not turning on so we had to illegally tow it to the shop

tomorrow im gonna talk to the dealer and try to relate the clutch to the tranny recall, hopefully it will work, if not im short a few benjamins.

you also dont know what you are talking about. Do do a clutch on an evo you pretty much have to take the whole engine out of the car. a new clutch for an evo from the factory is over 1000 dollars so is any after market one you are going to buy. 2000 for clutch and labor is a good deal. my jannkky 850hp evo will shit on whatever you drive.

Sounds like you dont know how to drive a clutch my friend...

let me ask you this, do you sit at intersections and stop signs and just leave your foot on the clutch? If so, bad news.. you might have worn out the throwout bearing..

ya that thing sucks u need a twin disk if you are replacing stock. either way he probably didnt buy it off ebay. ebay is a different story you can obviously always find shit on there for cheap but sometimes its easier just to buy it from a shop or something.

just take it easy on the accelerator

2.3 stroker, .020 over, ross pistons, oliver rods, supertech valve train, hks 280 cams, gt37r, ams intercooler and intake manifold, 1000cc injectors, aem ems, 1000hp fuel system, exedy twin disk cardon clutch, shep race trans, shep race transfer case other shit im forgetting. i am not bullshitting you lol.

that wore out amazingly quickly dude, you don't balance the clutch on hills or drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal do you? both of those things cause excessive wear, but are really common

woah, thats ridiculous power out of a GT37, didnt know they went that hard!

Has it run a time?

And do you have antilag? Definately post some vids if you do! :D

no times yet, thats not that crazy out of a 37r. antilag is terrible for your motor but i might set something up.

yeah your right, antilag is dumping fuel into the zorst manifold to ignite and spool the turbo up faster.

If you have a cheap nasty ebay turbo and zorst manifold it will blow up pretty quick and hence fcuk your engine....

Seems he has the right gear tho, should be right *touch wood*

ya it builds pressure in the motor before you actually go anywhere lol blow seals and those core plugs that hold the water in your block out all the time.
