Cliff Jumping Upstate NY

So my local cliff spot was destroyed by Irene, I mean I can still jump, but I'd probably die with how the land and water were moved around

So, where are some good spots?

I know there are other thread in the past, like one was in Mass and it looked really legit, but I'm too lazy to sort through all the old threads

Capital Region

To be precise Albany and Cobleskill

But I'm willing to travel 1-2 hours for a good spot, most likely unwilling to travel all the way to buffalo

ithaca area has the best

that might be a little far from albany though, it's worth it though

One of my good friends goes to Cornell, I just visited him a few weeks ago, I'd make the drive again, my parents house is west of albany towards itahca, if hes there this summer, def a potential trip

Hows the police/park rangers/rules situation with cliff jumping there?

they started to crack down on second, then there was construction at BB lake bridge but that should be done and open.

Right around the corner from my house, Trenton Falls. About 20 minutes north of Utica. Here's the best of the three falls right in sequence on the river, check it out:

Thats what im talking about!

Is it public?

If so, i'll be making a trip there this summer on one of my monthly turning stone trips

There's a few right on 23a in between Tannersville and Saugerties. No much more than an hour from cobleskill. Fawns leap is a prety nice on there. however i cannot confirm these are still jumpable. Because of that slut irene

exactly my problem in the cobleskill area (middleburgh to be more precise, west fulton to be exact, if you know where either place is)

Irene was a bitch, and i'm sure the spots you are talking about were effected somewhat, and I think I know what spots you are talking about, one of my dads friends grew up in tannersville and was telling me last year about his favorite spots, one which got shut down by park rangers but one which is still open

Was katerskill (spelling?) falls fucked by irene without lube like prattsville was? And that delicious mexican restaurant that is closed on mondays, is that in tannersville? or near there somewhere, authentic mexican food, soooo good

Katterskill falls is fine, just a lot of erosion. The cliffs are still

there, i'm not sure if the pools filled in though. Wont find out till

its warm enough to swim in. The one cliff is like 30-45 ft depending on where u jump, and theres one like .5 miles down from that, with a 12 ft jump.

Middleburgh, nice place. I've eaten at the little diner there a few times. I'm from Saugerties myself.

Most of Tannersville was spared except for a house here and there. Irene was much kinder to them then Prattsville. i went through there after the storm.....so terrible, almost unearthly. And as for the Mexican restaurant i'm not sure lol

.

Closed tuesdays, not mondays...PANCH VILLAS! Thats the restaurant!

And middleburgh is a nice little town, im from cobleskill, but its right next to it......theres a small little cluster of houses a tad west of middleburgh, like 3 miles and then a popular cliff spot amongst the locals, but ive seen some pictures and it probably wont be jumpable, at least until some work will be done

I went to Schoharie immediately following Irene, it was devastating, and I know Prattsville was worse so i can only imagine....picutres can only do so much. I remember when we were driving down main street of schoharie, it honestly felt like it was a war scene, but the pictures don't show it like how it felt, it was just eerie

I love Prattsville, I always visit pratts rock on my way through, and get ice cream at the gas station that i'm almost positive was destroyed, such a shame

If you find out if your spots are good, let me know and i will easily make a trip there once it warms, its really pretty close to me

No, it's not public. My parents and their friends fucked that up for us when they were kids by getting piss drunk and having 3 or so deaths in a 10 year period and the state closed it off.

However, if you time it right, you can get back there. It's about a 15 minute walk up off of the road. No one will see you while you're in there, but the walk in and out goes by a hydro plant on the other side of the gorge. So you just have to be sneaky

there is Hadley-Luzerne up the same area as well. I know a bunch of spots up here that dont have names

Other than the bridge of death is there anywhere else in this area? did any of you ever hit the rope swing that used to be set up near lake luzerne on river road? it was the best one i have ever hit but they tore it down.

blackhole in warrensburgh is superrr fun, not high by anymeans but its a super nice spot to chill, drink some beers and have a fun time..

heres an edit i made.

Hahaha is that fucking Lisa in that video?

And there is nothing really than the bridge of death there. Its not the bridge that is the death trap though its the currents under it.

And yeah that rope swing you were talking about was the first rope swing I could do a double off of if you are talking about the one by the boat launch

This is the one I was talking about. You could go huge. There was the one at the boat launch but this was a little further down the road and it was far better.

This?

Where exactly is it? I live on the tip of the catskills and is it open to public? I'll go down there this summer for sure!

yea thats it at :25... it's a pretty well known spot I guess so it can get crowded. I've only been there once but I've never heard of any issues about it not being allowed. I don't really know the area well because it's a two hour drive for me but this link seems to have the idea. my dad took me http://nycskill.com/?p=35

Fawn's Leap is open to the public with no issues. Due to recent (in the past two years) construction, parking has gotten a bit more limited. You may have to park down the road at Rat Hole and walk the half mile or so up now on a crowded summer weekend.

If you are coming up 87, get off at Saugerties. Drive toward Palenville and take Rt. 23A toward Tannersville. You will cross one bridge with a parking area on the left a bit after it. This is Rat Hole, a very popular swimming hole with small 5-10 foot cliffs. Continue up the road another half mile and cross the second bridge (Moore's Bridge). A few hundred feet after this bridge you will see cars parked on the right side of the road. Fawn's Leap is on the left, down a slope. If you get to the large paved parking lot on the left for Kaaterskill Falls you have gone way too far. The jumps range from 20 to 45 feet (45 if jumping from the top of the tree). I can confirm that the jump is still safe after Irene, but it is always good to check after the winter to make certain no boulders got washed into the landing. The water is not particularly deep, and I tend to hit the bottom on every jump. It is deep enough to not hurt though.

There are a number of good areas in the Adirondacks, including a 20-25 foot spot near Keene. There's another place in the Catskills (about 45 minutes from Fawn's Leap) that has an amazing rope swing with a 20 foot vertical drop and a swing out of around 50 feet.

That one was decent before they cut it down, as far as i know they have not put it back up again though.

I won't be coming up from 87, I live to the NW of this location, I'll be coming on some back roads to get near Kaaterskill falls, I've been there before

Def checking it out!

they cut down the tree, which was the perfect tree for a rope swing. I have yet to see another one in that area that would work nearly as well.

this. love going there in the summer. super fun when you find the secret hole alittle ways up stream in the waterfall. also theres a quarry in greenwhich (havent been but heard it was fun) and the dorest quarry in VT like right outside manchester.

roadtrip this summer?

I'll drive to the area, you gotta show me where to go on foot then haha

id be down. theres also a sick rope swing on saratoga lake. im talking like real pirate rig shit. it was really fun when i went last summer would be sick to bring a boat next time haha.

Word I live within 20 mins of toga lake and i go sailing there a ton at the Sailing Club. Wheres that rope swing located?

its like in the corner that is nearest the race track. like when your looking at that the really nice house up on the hill on the saratoga side you turn left and go toward the little re at that outlet. by road you go down county road 22 then turn down arrowhead. drive to end of the road to this small little parking spot for like 5 cars a dirt path, follow that path till you get to a small beach and the rope is on the other side of the stream. cant miss it from there.

We live on the other side of the lake from that. Not really worth making a road trip for that one. Its a board about ten feet high nailed to two trees.

wasnt really suggesting that swing as the main place to go. more of blackhole or dorest quarry as a roadtrip. just saying its fun as a like halfday thing when your from the area.

i definitely wanna check this out. and if anyones at lake george over the summer, hit me up i have a camp up there and know a few good spots

It's right where the Kaydeross comes into Saratoga Lake. Find Arrowhead Rd, take that to the end and park in the little parking area. Follow the trail down to the river, go left. Walk to the end and you can't miss it. You have to swim across the river to get to it.

There's a board about 10 feet up and another probably 20ish. You can jump off the higher board or out of the tree branches is you want to go higher. Just a warning, it's super shallow. probably only 8 feet or so in the middle.

I hope you like mosquitoes.

The Cliffs in Ithaca are the best dude, got all different heights of jumps from 20ft. to 105 ft. wouldnt recommend the 105 tho, my friend broke his knee cap doing that shit

also you could go to loch 5 here in schuylerville. i know its not that high (15 feet of the walls and 30 off the bridge) but its super fun for doing flips off it. actually i jumped in there back on friday after a track work out cause my school is like right next to it so we ran down there for a quick releif from the 85 degree sun. was pretty fun but still frigidly cold at this time of the year.

Indian Lake in the ADKs, like an hr north of Lake George has a sweet cliff with a rope swing, but you'd really need a boat to get there.

Years ago someone showed me a spot on Lake George, dunno where though.
