Cliff jumping question

dont wear a life jacket at all, im almost positive that if you go into the water at that speed, and you have a life jacket on, then it will shoot up on your body and break your neck or somethingl ike that. jsut dont do it.

Yea I've jumped a 75 footer and I was fine. You just need to know what your doing. Start small and work your way up.

130mph or so is terminal velocity, check any skydiving website. And you dont get up to that speed for at least 600ft. You fall at 9.8m/s assuming 60m/s is terminal (roughly 130mph) you dont get up to that for about 600ft. Thats not assuming wind resistance which is obviously a factor so its probably closer to 1000ft before you hit terminal velocity.

terminal velocity for a person is about 175mph to reach this speed you would need to fall about 400-500ft in a realtively aerodynamic position. However water feels like a solid at about 80 mph so that is more than enough to serioulsy injor a person if they dont enter the water correctly

ya I had to have surgery to repair my ear drum and now I can hear fine but at first it was extreamly painfull. I broke my collar bone about a week ago and I would have broken that 5 times just to make up for the ear. I dont do anything bigger than a pencil dive off cliffs now. not worth it. unless there is a girl to impress but then again you could just get her dunk that is alot easier

I did a 70 footer off a lighthouse in Michigan. That was daamn high. I'd do 90-100 feet, but no more than that. I stop diving at 40 feet.

ive hit a 65ft cliff at the highest , its pretty high, people that hit worng can break legs, feet ect. you hafta land perfect almost with you toes pointed

terminal velocity is when the force of gravity equals the force of wind resistance for all you people that are saying that you have to factor in wind resistance, it helps to know what terminal velocity even means. your net force is zero so you stop accelerating. if i remeber from physics class, terminal velocity on a human being falling straight down is 187 or so km/h

soooo

180km/h x 1000m/km x 1h/3600s = 50 m/s

Fg=9.8m/s^2

a=(V2-V1)/T --> T=(V2-V1)/a(Fg in this case)

therefore T=(50-0)/9.8=5.1s

soooo you have to fall for 5.1s to hit terminal velocity. which is well short of 600 feet.

I wont flippy spinny off of anything bigger than a 50 footer, and for some reason I suck at diving and it always hurts the top of my head even if I do them off of 20's

We pay our debt sometimes.

if that's accurate, then that cliff i thought was a 40 was more of a 60, cause i counted it out while i was in the air.......

splash.

I love cliff jumping, it's sooooo fun.

Just like hitting huge booters on skis, as long as you scope it before you do it, and have some balance, you'll be fine.

But, I'd personally never go over that cliff i was talking about, however big it was............ I remember looking over a 90+ footer once, with mabye a 10 foot landing circle inbetween sharp rocks.................... some people are crazy.

^I think cliff jump is way more of a thrill and dangerous than hitting a huge booter cuz even though i've never done any of them cliffs are usually located in tight spaces and the landing spots are pretty damn sketchy, but im not sure thats the way it is here at Lynn Canyon thers that 40-50 footer where you almost hit the trees and thats super sketchy to land, useless risk in my opinion...

Gravity sucks

What's the difference between a drunk and stoner at a stop sign???

The drunk speeds through, the stoner waits for the sign to turn green.

Terminal velocity skydiving, laying horizontal with arms and legs outstreched is about 140 mph, because of wind resistance. Terminal velocity in cliff jumping form, pencil dive, is about 200. To hit above 220, you have to be an expert skydiver, wear a streamlined helmet, and a slick full-body suit, and "dive" head down with perfect form. The fastest anyone has reached jumping out of an airplane was like 320 mph, but you have to decel back down to 140ish before you pull the chute

if you land flat on your back off a 10m tower, you can break ribs, get really serious whiplash (which i for one have), or if you land sideways or something you can blow out your eardrums n shit. so dont fuck up from high up. i did the calculations once on speed you'd hit the water at from like 20m, which is like almost 70 ft, and you're travelling damn fast, so if you're not wearing like those watershoe things, or maybe a wetsuit, you can compress your spine, break your back, and really fuck yourself up, so be careful.

...stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I-money your right about terminal velocity is the point at which the wind resistance keeps you from accelerating. But you didn't factor wind resistance into your equation. You just did it as if you were accelerating under normal gravity the entire time. Clearly the wind resistance is going to slow your acceleration. For most normal sky dives 120-130 mph is terminal velocity, you can get higher with pencil steeze and if you juump higher up where the air is thiner. No one has jumped off a cliff and come close to terminal velocity because it is well over 600ft to do so.

^ yeah thoese are fun till you hit some of the rocks that they ARE FUCKING MINEING in quarries...

Personaly the highest thing i have jumped off was around 50feet, but i have heard of someone jumping off close to 200feet and he was way fucked up from it. in a coma and shit!!

here in kimbeley there are these cliffs called marysville falls, anyway the top one is like 70 feet, no big deal, but the water is 8 feet deep. right when you hit the water you have to swoop your feet, or they will crush

it's accurate, trust me i did it right. u counted ur seconds faster than u should have.

i didn't bother factoring in air resistance cause i didn't go up to terminal velocity, but those numbers are close enough.

i jumped a good 60 footer...it was 3 times what i had ever done before so i got freaked out and mentally went into a cannonball. ripped some muscles in my stumach and was in pain the rest of the summer.

i was hittin the 7.5 meter(roughly 30 feet) at a pool. i did it so many times in a row. once i impacted i would rip the inner lining of my upper lip cause the rush of water would pull my lip up. anything landed on ur back above 25 feet will hurt for a while. internal injuries if u land off perfect on anything over 50. point ur feet down towards the water on anything over 30 feet.

The highest I've jumped was a 40 footer at my cottage.

The next would probably be a 30 foot bridge which was nothing...

And the only injury i've ever had from cliff jumping was slashing my knee open, because I let myself sink for too long and then when i kicked, my knee bashed a rock. That was just off like a 15 foot ramp that I built with my friend though.
