I need some critique on what I’m doing wrong skiing cliffs. On bigger drops like this it’s a 50/50 shot I eat it. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also it could be I’m just super weak at 5 10 140lbs 16 years old

thanks for the help in advanced

From what I can see, your weight is pretty far back and your legs are almost fully extended when you land. These two things are most likely causing you to wheelie out when you hit the ground.

Shin pressure on takeoff and a little more bend in the knees before landing should help.

First I'd say commit a little more and get your weight forward, it kinda looked like you were expecting to backslap that when you took off. Also being stronger generally can be huge, I started hiking and climbing a lot last summer and its crazy the difference that the increased core strength has made on my skiing

You're definitely backseat in the air but those conditions looked rough for a cliff like that. Sending onto more solid snow is much less forgiving if your balance is a little off.

Proper A frame should punt you into the frontseat.

Pop off your shins, suck your knees up, try to put your arms together infront of your knees like an A.

Alright so should I be more centered or do I want to be forward? Also that explains why no one else was sending it today lmao

Im usually a little more forward on steep or firm landings and centered when the snow is deep. It's so tough to explain, but I can just "feel" if I am going to tomahawk or backslap well before I land. I guess that just comes with a lot of jumping experience.

Alright I’ll try this on smaller cliffs and work my way up thanks for the advice

I know what you mean about that feeling thanks for clarifying hoping to get redemption tomorrow if conditions are a little better

Also on the landings try and slam both of your poles in to the ground at the same time you land. Helpps me a lot

This is the ticket. If you have trouble getting your legs up, focus on grabbing mute before the drop. This helped me naturally progress into the right form.

First Step: Is to go to the gym

Next Step: Do the most extreme leg workouts you can. Like Squats tons of Squats

Then go hit that cliff again and make it look like a tiny puny little drop made for CHILDREN

^^^^

This makes a huge difference

I’ve always found that my mindset played a big part in landing cliffs. If I was scared I would take off backseat and immediately start rolling down the windows. You just gotta get more confident and you’ll naturally take off in a more aggressive and even stance. I’d say give yourself more of a run in even if you side slip in just keep it rolling and don’t pop to late.
