okay so i am wrting an essay about the 3 amendments that were created after the civil war that created equal rights for blacks. also how the southerns got around these amendments to treat the blacks like slaves again. here is my intro, please tell me what you think and let me know if i should change anything. thanks

The American Civil War was hands down one of the bloodiest wars in American history. The fight between the Union and Confederacy was waged on for years, but like all wars the American Civil War ended with the birth of three new amendments added to the constitution of the United States. These amendments were soon to be known as the Civil War amendments. These amendments were created for the greater good of the African American community that lived in the United States. African Americas were now freed slaves, but the South was still upset about the results of the war, so they made laws to get around the amendments and still treat the African American community like slaves.

your first sentence is bad. dont use hands down because it sounds elementary. also it wasnt one of the bloodiest it was the bloodiest war.

more americans died in the civil war than both world wars combined if i remember correctly

as for how the south got around the laws

talk about poll taxes/literacy tests (prevented them from voting)

sharecropping (basically almost slavery, but not quite)

lynching etc.

ferguson. the ruling basically was that the 14th amendment didnt apply to private citizens, only the govt. so basically individuals, or private corporations, could be as discriminatory as they liked.
