Chronic Blend flex comparison

so, im 6' 180lbs and I was dicking around on my buddy's 171 chronics and I liked the flex, so I was wondering, since the blend is softer then the chronic would the flex on the 178 blend feel similar?

thanks +K for good help

I rode 2013 Blends and 2014 Chronics.

The Blends are a lot softer in the Nose/Tail, probably the softest feeling 'park' ski I've skied. If you like the Chronic flex I don't think you would like the Blend flex.

I'm comparing the flex on the 171 chronic and the 178 blend

the 171 chronic is still stiffer than the 178 blend, it will just be too short.

are the blends softer then the TC's?

In the tip/tail, yes. I would say from stiffest to softest feel Chronic, Bacon, TC, Blend

I hope you are not looking into buying 178 blends. Those are going to feel like snowblades for you. Line measures short. Go with the 185 if you are going to get blends. Also buy them new from a shop so you can claim warranty if you snap the butter zones.

cole drexler and jarred mccarl both ride the 178 and are both bigger then me

center of gravity plays a factor, which is something that people are gonna start to figure out.

let me explain a little:

Im 5'4" and i own a 178 blend (not by choice but it just happened to get my hands on them). I cannot butter these skis for shit! its not my weight; its simply the fact that im not tall enough to get my center of gravity over the tip and tails to execute a butter.

heres how it will apply to you:

yes the blend is softer, but the longer length will give it a more relative stiffness to the shorter chronic. youre 6 foot and thats really tall for a 178 with early rise, so you will still probably find the ski extremely buttery. but what im saying is i assume you were able to butter the absolute shit out of a 171, so you can expect about the same from the blends.

I'm 5'8 and around 135lbs... this is me on 178 Blends. They were so soft I found it hard to control butters. I went way past the balance point and folded the skis up more times than I care to remember. I rode 185 Blends for a few laps and even they were too soft for me.

dont you think 185's would be pretty big to ride in the park?

Not in the case of the blend. Can't get a actual find on the blend tape pull length but the tip to tail length on the 185 opus is 183.4cm and the 184 bacons actually measure out to be 180.5. So even if the blend measure out the same as the opus that's not big for park at all including the early rise making it feel slightly shorter along with the mount probably being 2cm back from center or even dead center. At 6 feet tall that's not a long ski at all for park unless you have a hard time driving skis.

Source is blister gear review on those measurements.

I'm 5'5" and I rode 178 blends for a day. I had no issues with that size, so I'd imagine somebody taller than me wouldn't have any issues with bigger ones. They're not stiff or hard to ski by any means.

What about the flex comparison of the 174 Domain and the 178 Blend?

Domains are less noodly in the tip/tail, it's a smoother flex profile than the blend. Don't get me wrong the Domain is a soft ski, it's just less prone to total overflexing than the Blend.
