I wanted to make a thread to remind everyone of the greatest first baseman to ever grace the fields of a Major League Baseball stadium. I'm not talking about Lou Gehrig, Albert Pujols, Willie McCovey, Jim Thome, or Mark McGwire. I'm talking about the man, the myth, the helmet.

John OlerudNow I've never been a Seattle Mariners fan, but how could you not laugh your hearts content when you turned on the tube and saw good old John on 1st base wearing a helmet? The man was prepared for any situation. God Damn I love John Olerud, and I bet there are more of you who remember watching this man play.

I think its cause he had a brain anurism(butchered that word, sorry) while playing college ball. Not super sure though.

i remember watching him on the tube all the time. he was mr consistant. me being from Washington i watched a lot of mariners growing up. i still remember when he hit for the cycle like it was nothing.

this guy is the best! i remember when i was 5 or 6, i was obsessed with watching him on tv, and i sent him a card in the mail with a drawing. He ended up sending back some autographed pictures and unreleased baseball cards. /fuckyeah

I love John Olerud!

I still remember the game the M's went like 19 innings against some team (maybe the A's?)and he had to pitch.

Bret Boone FTW. I was at an Ms game when Ruben Sierra hit a homerun and they called it a Ruben Slamwich. Greatest play on words of all time

I remember one game they gave the first 10,000 or so people John Olerud helmets and I got one and was him for multiple halloweens.
