Chicks on instagram

A guy looking at 2 instagram pages:

Page 1(An average male doing a backflip on skis): Pretty cool, but I've seen it all before

Page 2(An attractive female doing some generic shit): I will follow her because she's hot and maybe if she sees I like her stuff, if I message her she'll respond or something like that.

This is basically what instagram is in a nutshell. It does also work in reverse though with a hot guy to girls since I feel like more girls waste time browsing instagram endlessly.

Yeah unfortunately a lot of female "pro" action sports athletes are nothing more than glorified fitness models. They really just don't throw down that hard. Girls like Taylor Lundquist give me hope though.

Yeah some chicks throw down! I think that these accounts are wicked dumb if I'm being honest.

agreed, her and that italian chick, berto gio or whatever her name is throw down some real stuff. They deserve the recognition.

That reminds me of these two chicks kajsa and marlou they throw a backy here and there but I think people mostly follow their YouTube cause they're hot

As a brand it's often better to get consistent, aesthetically pleasing, lifestyle content than weak and inconsistent shots of someone skiing well. If you look at it beyond the perspective of being part of the core skier demographic, accounts like these are easy for the average consumer to romanticize, and offer a hope to escape per se to wherever they are or exist in their lifestyle. It's the marketable "attractive people in attractive places" sort of thing. So, the "deal with chicks who have 10,000+ followers and a bunch of sponsors," is that social media is a huge discussion in itself, but their approach is one of the many ways to work it to your advantage.

I agree that the ladies like Gio and Taylor need more recognition. However, I don't really think that they are necessarily comparable to the examples you provided other than gender. They are two very different approaches to the sport, social media, content, etc. (just a thought, would love to hear what other people have to say on that.)

People don't necessarily follow accounts like the ones you are talking about for the skiing. They follow it because it's pretty and we instinctively like that.

@heymamiskiing is what you need to be following if I understand what you're looking for correctly. Offering stoke to the kind of content you want to see, i.e. ladies actually sending, is how you encourage that niche to grow and for more girls to post their stuff.

We have the benefit of being the minority and guys are more likely to follow a girl freeskier then a dude while girls don't have that preference.

Is there a size and condition requirement for a knee injury?

And is everything you post going to be dumb as fuck?

Dude I've hurt myself cruising down groomers. Better story is my buddy when we were younger broke his arm on the bunnyhill. Jumped a little piece of snow in the middle and his snowboard slipped out underneath him. Funniest thing in the world. And no. We were not on the bunnyslope but you can cut through it when there is not a lot of traffic to get to another lift.

I agree theres a huge difference between the more lifestyle oriented accounts and the ones focused solely on skiing, but I don't think that distinction is always made super clear. Up until very recently, every segment in a ski movie that featured a woman always had a mandatory amount of shots of them looking cute, and sometimes it feels impossible to follow a skier girl on instagram without getting a bunch of lifestyle shots as well.

Nah dude you just aren’t funny.

Unless I'm wrong, none of those girls have "a bunch of sponsors". They're literally just lifestyle instagrams which are a huge demographic on instagram itself. It's not even exclusive to girls, in fact this guyhttps://www.instagram.com/proudlock/, has 720k followers and he posts what? Fashion? Fitness? Who knows.

Laura summed it up the best, it's attractive people in attractive places. They're not trying to be a pro freeskier, they're literally just creating their own brand on instagram (which is lame to me but whatever I don't have to follow them). If you want to support girls in skiing chuck a follow and a share to some of the rippers posted in this thread.

Whats the deal with chicks who have 10,000+ followers, and have a bunch of sponsors but, don't post any content of them actually sending? Its all just them in ski gear hiking or making a turn in deep pow, but nothing thats super impressive. What do people think? What do the girls of NS think?

Examples:

Devon Kaehttps://www.instagram.com/devonkae/

Hayden Korte Moorehttps://www.instagram.com/haydenkortemoore/

Meredith Dranginhttps://www.instagram.com/meredithdrangin/

The only ski whamen I worship is Taylor Lundquist. She actually pulls of really sweet tricks.

I think the issue is you're looking at them as sponsored athletes. Which, while they might be on paper, in reality they're sponsored models/social media reps. They don't need to (and from the looks of it don't) ski any better than your average weekend warrior who goes touring once a season. Their goal is to turn people's heads and make people think "I want that lifestyle" to sell their sponsors gear. Ski skills are not required to post selfies of you skinning or sitting on surfboard in a bikini.

the pretty lady using a vacuum cleaner on tv ads isn't better at vacuuming than you or i am, either, but that's not the point

Probably because there are so few girls involved in skiing anyway that the ones who ARE involved get more attention for how they look than their actual skiing

I think a lot of the girls you're talking about probably do shred, but dudes like you have this weird stigma against them and are waaaay more critical of their ability than is actually necessary, plus there's as many dudes who are doing exactly the same thing. It's also worth bearing in mind that the whole marketing side of the industry has changed now, like it's not about who is doing the best in comps and shit, it's more about who can represent the brand well and get a large reach somehow. People like Kajsa and Malou definitely aren't sending the biggest lines or whatever but they produce some pretty sick + enjoyable content so why shouldn't brands support that? Just chill out a bit homie

I never called out kajsa or Malou. I think they actually rip. I've seen a couple doubles from them and they're respectable skiers for sure. The skiers I used as examples have little to no content of them actually skiing. I was just curious to know if people support these athletes/models or not. I personally am bummed to see brands supporting looks, and not real skiing. I don't see what's wrong with that.

As for dudes doing the same thing, I cant think of one person that has a big following that hasn't been a great skier in the past, or isn't pushing the sport right now.

That's actually a really good point. I also agree there vids are pretty entertaining to watch. And I guess by moving away from the whole competition thing, it makes skiing seem more relatable and thus marketable
