(i search barred it and there wasnt really much so dont say searchbar) My friends and i are planning a trip to ski the chic chocs in quebec, does anyone ski there? if so whats the best time to go and whats it like?
 
chic chocs are amazing. it's like skiing in actual big mountains, with legitimate vert and snow. you really need to be on your shit though, there is real avy danger and serious exposure on some lines. you will need touring or telemark gear, there are no lifts and sleds won't get you everywhere. totally worth the trip though, there are some sweet huts you can rent for cheap too.
 
best time is later on in the season, notoriously bad for avalanches so you shouldn't really be skiing there if you don't really know your shit, there is only one guide and im sure he is all booked for the season
 
if you don't have the opportunity to go to any REAL mountains (rockies...), do it. it's a long drive from NE but it's cool, stop in quebec city or something on the way. just don't get yourself killed.
 
Me I'm going this winter for 4 days, everything is planned !

You need a place to stay for the night, so the Sea shacks's near the chic-choc.. but in the chic-chocs you have Hog's back mountain and an another one that I don't remeber the name... but you need to plan everything.. and someone already die in a avy there.. so don't mess up with that !
 
i know that im not stupid but can you go with a guide and ski, cause from what the guy said earlier he made it seem like you can only go telmarking nad not skiing.
 
Get a beacon, shovel, probe. Also make sure your friends have them too or they have no way to dig YOU out. Chic Chocs are serious, they had a big avi last April with someone perishing. DON'T go without people who know what they are doing, goto Amqui instead.....
 
dude i mean nothing is within easy walking distance. everything decent either requires a sled or a tour in. don't go up with alpine skis and think it will be fun. snowshoeing with skis on your pack could work, but shit I wouldn't want to be doing that.
