This is a quick list for reference for setting up a cheap effective wax/ tune for private skis.

petex for gouges--- plastic 6 pack beer ring

wax--- get on sale use and remelt scrapings to use again

aprasion pad---get one that they sell for cleaning dishes

wax scraper--- any hard plastic item that is flat and wide enough to cover full width of ski(recomended but not needed)- such as a stiff plastic dust pan

file--- cheap file used to file metal

iron--- old iron with no steam holes- look at secondhand stores or garage sales

screw driver--- garage sales or second hand stores

I still sugest that you get skis/board tuned by a good reliable shop. Take into mind that it takes practice to get good at tuning, may have to redo tune multipletimes.

If there is anythng I missed feel free to post it.

AHAHAH waaaaaaaat

who teh fuck is seriously that cheap to melt a 6 pack plastic thing into their skis

stingy muther fuckers

Hey it is proven....a few years back my (old)skis were qouged extremely. I heated up my iron and melted the rings, the pro tuners still havent noticed the difference

Got it from the parents , they had a friend teach it to them in Austria about 25-30 years ago! I love ski bum techniques!

Considering the way ski bases flex, they're probably made of the same polymer. The US has pretty much done away with use of those ring things though.

Sounds about like my tune kit. Oh the joys of being in college. Linoleum countertop pieces work really well as wax scrapers too. You can make a cheap pozidriv screwdriver pretty easily by grinding down the tip of a phillips driver a little bit.
