Cheap Skiing + Lodging

Hey everyone, I'm visiting Amsterdam with my family for a week (Dec 23 - Jan 1) and I figured that I would try do some skiing in Germany or Switzerland, or Austria while I was in Europe. The problem is…I don't have much disposable income. I'm trying to plan out a trip but I have no knowledge of the region. I guess what I am asking is…where are the cheapest places to for skiing and lodging? I won't have a car while I am there either.

Another question that I have…what would be the best way to transport myself from Amsterdam to the mountains?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

well, it is quite a way. it depends if you want to ski pow, or just some groomers and park. For pow you will have totravel to the alps, wich will be around 1000 km. there are deals from time to time to travel the distance by train, but that is 60 euros, and then it would be another 60 bucks back. another possibility is to look for a group to travel with through a travel organisation, wich should be around 500 euros for a week, food, hotel, lift pass and travel inclusive.

there is a tiny skiing mountain somewhere in germany, wich is called Winterberg. no pow there, just some slopes and parks. way cheeper and closer tho
