Cheap place to stay for a month in Colorado

I have no idea about Colorado, never been there before but the thing is my sister has discounts for the ski resorts (vail, breck, keystone, etc..) so I'm thinking about going there for a month or so, obviously for the winter.

As I`ve been told, resorts in colorado like vail tend to be really expensive and I don't want to spend fucking tons of money on accommodations, so I need help to find a good place to stay for a month, or any information about towns to look into or anything you think would be helpful.

Best bet is to rent a room for a month. Put an ad up on craigslist.
