i stayed in a hostel last year for 1 and a half months, was siick met some good mates but after that had to move to an apartment, just got to anoying, no where to put all you stuff so you have to sleep with the entire contents of your suitcase on your bed!! i would "couch surf" but dont know anyone out there to stay with!

haha well my brother has been traveling all over europe. hes mostly been hostel hopping and met a bunch of cool people from all over the world, although he did have one bad night in amsterdam his second time in which he and his friend alternated sleeping because his roommates were an egyptian, and a cambodian, and "canadian" and sold crack out of the room and "looked like they were going to snap and kill us at any time". i feel like there would be nicer people/hostels in france, switzerland, or austria. more people there to ski ithen selling crack... or i would recommend getting a job at a resort and take advantage of the employee housing if at all possible.

Ferienwohnungen.
Generally a good deal if it's several of you, it's self-catering, and usually a fairly spacious apartment with a full-ish kitchen.
Also, mid-Feb. is the school holidays, expect utter chaos on the slopes. You're far better off being on either side of February, in other words you're better off visiting mid-January, or starting the first week of March. Otherwise, it's a rotating door of schoolkids, combined with sky-high prices and full accommodation.

Hey man,
I moved out to Chamonix a month ago, check chamserve and post on cham74. I'd say book yourself in the hostel for the first four days, you'll probably find someone looking for a flatmate once your here far easier than trying to do it online. Cham sud is the cheapest area but famous for its tiny studio apartments.
Have a good season man!
