Changing FKS Brakes

After using the Google and looking at my Pivots, it looks like you need to take the binding off of the ski to change the brakes; looks like it'd be a pain even once they were off. Are they as hard to change as it seems?

you need to take of the heel piece to change FKS brakes. this thread would be helpful to you. you might want to watch the first video:

I just skimmed the video, no time to watch it fully. If it said anytihng about old vs. new brakes I missed it. Besides, wasn`t this video made before the new binding came out?

I'm looking to take the 115mm brakes from my existing pair, and swap them for the 85mm brakes in the pair I want to buy. The pair I'm buying is going on some 120mm skis (bending the 115mm brakes), while the 85mm brakes will go on the existing pair. My existing pair are new FKS 140s, I'm looking at an old pair of 155s.

Are the brakes compatible?

Yeah he does mention that older brakes are more likely to snap upon bending as the metal becomes more brittle with age. But you shouldn't have a problem with new brakes, especially as you'll only be bending them a little bit. He also shows you how to dismantle the heel assembly, which is difficult to do without the proper know how (Well at least putting it back together is).
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the new FKS is exactly the same as the old design, so you should be able to swap the brakes over. God knows why they stopped making them for all those years. Such a great binding.

Shits a cake walk. I did it baked like 6 years ago when nug f***ed me up something fierce. I got my tutorial of teton grvity research. They're the guru's of p18s.

Thanks man. I was looking at the video today, and the heel assemblies do look almost the same. I had heard that the hole pattern had changed and figured other stuff might've.

+K to you.

Yeah they should be fine. I'd probably put some wood glue in the holes when putting the heel pieces back on. At least that's what I did to mine.
