Champlain, and Burlington.

This upcoming fall I'll be joining the real world once again and transferring somewhere with my 2 years of credits. Champlain is at the top of my list so far. I'm sure this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything real concrete through searching.
1. Whats the upperclassmen housing situation like at Champlain? Chances are I'll be stuck in a freshman dorm for my first semester but is there anyone in upperclassish housing? if so whats the wack level? I'll most likely be living off-campus eventually but everything will be new to me so doing the dorm life again for a semester has it's perks. The only thing that sucks is that I'm 21, drink heavily, smoke too much weed, and realllyyyyy don't feel like dealing with RA's and underage bullshit.
2. Hows the night scene in burlington? I've skied all over VT but never went to burlington. Seems like a pretty poppin place with all the collegeness going around.
3. Is the free pass to sugarbush really just the mt. ellen pass? If so, that's fucking gay. I'm guessing mad people carpool to stowe?
4. Overall is it a dope school? I fucking hated my school in denver. I don't want to go back to hating shit again.

hey man, applying to Chaimplain hopefully getting in and going, but from what i can figure out, most people only live on campus for freshman year, and some live their sophmore year, but after that most people move into Burlington or move to some condos on near St. Mikes.

The school is nice and wicked fun, plus Burlington is a wicked fun city, alot of music and activities always going down. I liked it up their, good luck man

I am pretty sure all of Champlain's housing is pretty dope. They don't really have dorms, but rather sick old victorian houses.
Burlington's night life is solid, good parties, good bars, lots of cool like minded people.
Mt. Ellen is dope, there park will be great this year and tree skiing is actually real solid. South is also very sick as far as terrain goes. Stowe is also awesome, but a pass will run you 450 at this point. Lots of UVM kids do stowe.

sick name

rip j dilla

btown is fun

lots of handrails if tthere is snow

big IF considering it doesnt seem to snow in vt anymore.. bummmerrr

I know a few teachers that moved out to Champlain from RMCAD in Denver. I figured it's the best place for me to be right now, all my other options that involve going to good schools involve shitty, or no skiing. Champlain gives me the best of both....plus I'll only be like 6 hours from home which is a big thing for me. I used to live in CO 26 hours away and it wasn't too convenient being all the way out there sometimes. I'll be visiting in January.

i'm a senior at Champlain studying graphic design. if you have to live on campus try to get into main street suites. it's the closest thing to upperclassmen housing. pm me if you have more questions about anything champlain related

I absolutely love Burlington. Such a mix of good people- some of which happen to be crazy- but you'll definitely find a crowd you fit into.
Bar scene is average for a town this size, but there's always something to do.

i transferred here to CC in the summer, Having completed 2 years of school already, i had to take Core classes that put me behind a year, so i am a sophomore for the second time.

Overall great school, i like most of my teachers, it is just CORE that sucks, prepare to take a summer bridge course. It wasn't too bad though, i made tons of friends over summer and Burlington is the place to be. Great night life, ton's of activities and great mountains near by.

So far i have bought a Sugarbush pass for $100, and Finny (the president) has secured that deal for the next 3 years or so :)

I also picked up a ticket for the Dew Tour at Killy for $25, including food, bus and lift ticket, i am beyond stoked

Champlains so dope. I applied there so i should be hearing from them shortly. I did early decision and im hoping to study Environmental Policy

nice to hear from someone pretty much in my same situation. im prepared to deal with the core shit, and am fine with summer bridge. I actually look forward to meeting some new people and having a summer in burlington. it totally sucks transferring but I pretty much came to terms with the fact that everywhere I go will most likely most put me back by about a full year. either that or go back to my old school, which will never happen. im honestly not too eager about diving into the job market anyway...the more time im in school the better is the way I see it.
im glad you can upgrade the sugarbush pass. ill most likely do that in addition to a stowe pass. living in CO for two years and having a pass there spoils you with variety, plus I've always loved stowe since I was like 8. i'd be cheating myself if I lived 45 minutes away and didn't have a pass there.

I just remembered i posted in this thread. I finally heard from champlain and i got in so I'll be up there this fall. So stoked!

yo man-

To start off, i'm a freshman at Champlain but I have a pretty good understanding of things.

1) I'm pretty sure there is no on-campus requirement at Champlain. Most freshman live on campus, then a lot of kids move off campus for the rest of the time. There are a lot of places to rent in Burlington, but get on that ASAP if you are going to do that. It's just kind of shitty that you don't know anyone in the area for a roommate. If you do live on campus, many upperclassmen live at this college-owned apartment complex called Spinner Place. Mostly wack gamers at Spinner to be honest and its all the way in Winooski which sucks, though there is a shuttle.

2) Night scene's legit, especially if you are 21. You will like Burlington.

3) $30/Mt Ellen and $100/whole mountain. I bought the $30 and a pass to Stowe. Its been legit.

4) Yes. It really is a cool little school. You will really like graphic design here too. The school has a bunch of technology and just opened the "Perry Barn" which is full of new cinema display iMacs. Google it or something, its sweet.

The core program really does suck, though it seems to depend on who you get for a professor. Personally, I had a great professor for Rhetoric, which was essentially an English class. But for Concepts of Self I had a crazy woman who actually thought what she was teaching was important. My roommates all had really easy core classes though, so it's luck of the draw.

Be aware of the fact that there is a big Game Programming/Design program at CC. This means that the school is essentially a good amount of nerds peacefully coexisting with cooler kids.

Overall, I doubt you would hate it. I like it a lot.

Thanks for the info! Nice post man. I've made the decision to go off-campus if I wind up there. I lived in a dorm once and after being on my own for two years, I don't know if I'll be able to do it again without losing my mind. Plus I could be living in a baller suite for the price of dorms anyway. The roommate situation sucks, I agree, but after having more shit roommates than a pedo in county prison, I'll probably live by myself if not with my best friend from PA. Roommates fucking blow, especially if you don't thoroughly know the person. I'm done with putting myself in a bad positions...I just want to chill and finish school. I just figured Champlain might have some nice options for upper-classmen like a few schools in Philly do.
As far as the nerd thing goes, I'm used to it. My old school had a big animation department as well as game design, and all of those kids weren't exactly pulling in the pussy. Lots of strange people. Most of them wore tails which I never really understood. Good entertainment if anything. Many of them will wind up playing 2% of a video game for 50 hours a week or drawing a bush 6000 times. If thats what they're into...I'm cool with it.

I really appreciate everyone's posts, time, and feedback. Props! Definitely feeling much better about Champlain now. Anyone know about the skatepark scene? I ride BMX a lot too so gotta ask about that too.

hahahah ive seen a few of those tail kids. so damn weird.

there's a decent skate park by the water, then there's Talent indoor park like 2 miles away
