Chamonix Without Car?

Impossible? A buddy who never has skiied and I want to go.. Any recommendations? We're looking to ski a bit, and also see the "sights" basically chill up in the mountains..
any advice would be great
 
If you arrive in Geneva Airport, then a shared taxi ride is probably your best bet. There are usually people looking for a shared taxi to Chamonix, it's probably say 50-60 Euro or so.
Going by train is slow.

 
Try to track down Joe Valone if you go to Chamonix. He spent 7 seasons working as a certified mountain guide in the Alps. Prior to France, Joe spent some serious time working with Chugach Powder Guides in Alaska.
 
what time of year/month are you getting in. as stated before, the train is long and quite expensive. There are bus/coach transfers from Geneva airport and from Geneva as well. not that expensive. once you are in the Chamonix valley there is a very good bus service (at least in the summer and the ski season). you will be able to get to where ever you want to go. Hope this helps a bit and that you have a good time.

 
Incredibly easy without a car. If you have a ski pass, you have access to all buses. You can get buses anywhere in the valley that take you anywhere in the valley. And if you want to get out, then you can take the train. Its almost easier not to have a car in Chamonix.
 
If you guys have any other advice. my friend doesn't ski much. were looking to see some cool shit, take a nice hike, find a good spot for partying, all on the cheaper end. i know chamonix is mad expensive. but this is our "once in a lifetime" as they put it kind of chill trip. so pass on the good advice.

Hit up Aguille du Midi for some epic views and shit. If your skiing too though, if you get some pow you should just shred the magical forest at De Grand Montets for a day. SO ignant.
 
aiguille du midi is by far the most spectacular place i have ever been in my life. Though i have a slight fear of heights, so it was love/hate. I kept picturing myself falling off and just dropping seemingly forever. But the views were so worth it
