Center mount

Let me start this off by saying I dont really know shit about shit, I just pay people to do the shit for me, which clearly puts me in a position where I just gotta trust that people did a good job unless something is visibly or obviously not looking correct. Also, Im stoned.

I just got some skis mounted up and got them put at true center. doing my measurements at home afterwards to double check that everything looks good, i realize that with pivots, theres more hardware in the toe piece than the heel piece (length). Because of this, for a true center mount, there is less ski in front of the binding from tip of toe piece to tip of ski, than there is from back of heel piece to end of tail. Most other bindings have a lot more length in their heel piece, making this not be the case r.e. amount of ski infront of the toe piece and behind the heel piece. Does this in effect make it so the skis are mounted in front of center? not by much, but a little? The center of my boot sole is right on the true center mark on the skis, so the tech did exactly what I asked him to do, but im curious now if what ive mentioned above is correct, or am I tweaking?

Its not my first pair of center mounted pivots, but this is the first time ive thought about this.

Boot center point is all that matters.

your front binding can be a 12 inch dildo but if ur boot center is on the dead center line of the ski it wont make a difference.

and yes you are tweaking

You are correct that their is a little more tale then tip when you centre mount pivots (just confirmed with my own skis). Does it make a difference? Who knows and who cares.

NGL i felt a little bit like you when i was making this thread haha.

I just realized this the other day too and it’s almost a 2” difference. Side cut and turning are still what u would expect but it definitely would affect the flex pattern I’d imagine.

what skis are they punk?

I recently had the same reflexion with new skis mounted - 2 cm with Pivot.

Boot sole was really -2. But when you measure front of toe piece to nose and vice versa with the tail, they're equal.

Someone should do a real study on this.

i don't think it's a stupid question. the mounting area, namely that it is small, is a big gimmick in Look's advertising

i wouldn't worry about it at all (doesn't sound like OP is) and i think other concerns about center mounting are more important so i don't center em anymore anyway... but it's an interesting thought

reminds me of the idea of a center mounted ski that has early rise but no tail rocker. that results in more effective edge behind your foot than in front of it, right?

yea this is also what i was thinking. they are nomad 95s, not sure if the tail rocker starts further back than the tip rocker.

they skied great today tho, lots of fun, didn’t get in my head once about it! lol
