Center mount vs -2

I just got a pair of the 2017 Moment Frankenskis. They reccomend mounting 2 back from center. I ski mostly park and I feel like it'd throw me off on jibs and stuff. Would it be a noticeable different on rails and jumps if I get em mounted 2 back? Or is it just preference

Preference if you ask me. I used to mount everything dead center because I only rode park and skied backwards all the time.

However these days since I've slowed down a bit, I like getting the actual intended carve pattern of the ski so usually stick with recommended.

-2 wont be noticable on jumps and rails unless youre doing like 50+ days on different skis in a season. my pow skis are -2 and i can do everything i can do on my park skis on them plus ski pow. its just 2 centimeters man

I owned a pair of frankenskis. Had them mounted true center. Worked great in the park and around the mountain. Dope pair of skis. Good choice.

That being said my new skis are 4frnt devastators . I still want to be able to casually ski park with them, but I've started to move away from the park scene and more towards all mountain. Recommended is 6cm back but I'm not sure how I feel about that after riding true center forever. Would 2cm back be fine?

if they're not centered i don't fuck. i know its not a big difference but i had AR7's and traded them for different skis just for that

Yeah -6 in the park would be wack. I'd go -2 if your planning on doing some rails.

The Frankenski is actually recommended to be center mounted. It is completely symmetrical and everyone at the factory rides their's dead center.

Good to know

rule of thumb:

symmetrical skis: center mount

directional twin tips: -2cm

Directional skis shouldn't be mounted at true center. Like bishop said, if you're a little back, you're engaging the designed radius of the ski.

Agreed. In my experience it's not ideal to be standing way ahead of the fattest part of the core. Your skis will track weird and you'll be wanting to ride back seat to get better bite.

I usually mount even symmetrical skis -1. My weights always forward when I ski (even switch) so it makes sense to me to be a little behind center so my weight is actually over the middle

Pretty much mount everything 2.5 back from center. Even my pinacles I mounted about + 5 in front of recommended which puts it about -3 from true center. It's really all preference. I find 2.5 gives you a ski you can charge around everywhere yet still have fun backwards

I have just bought a pair of Line Tom Wallisch Pros, last season. I'll be riding them in the park and on groomers. Is it recommended -2cm? How will the affect in tail presses and the pop of the ski?

Would recomend going the recommended mounting because you could totally throw off your turn radius and make the side cut they designed useless

-2 wont throw you off that bad at all. You will still be able to ski park and charge hard anywhere else. its just 2 cm

So if I won't notice it then wants the point in going -2 in the first place? Does it affect the performance to have them dead centre for park skiing and charging around?

If it's recommended to go -2 then go -2. You won't really notice much in the park but if they are center mounted it may affect the way the skis cut. But I'm not an expert lol

On my K2 shreditor 102's mine are mounted -2 ( shop told me to go further back) my buddies same ski is recomended and his float wayyyyyy better in pow besides that I notice nothing different

My armada jjs are mounted -2 from dead center. Recommended was -5. I also hit rails on them from time to time. However all my park skis and everything else are mounted +1 from dead fuckig center

In my experience the only people who bitch about 2 centimeters are the people who suck at skiing anyways.

-2 is the sweet spot if you arent used to center mounting. it will feel weird like youre leaning back if you center mount, even on symetrical skis. just get skis that are close to 180 cm and it wont be noticable at all

You'll have to lean forward a lip more when riding switch to engage your edge. I think it makes tail presses easier

Ahh got yah, so probably best to go with the recommended line??

That's why it's recommended but I honestly feel like anything more than -3 is weird to get used to at first. However, it's not going to affect you too much unless you're the type of skier that has to have EVERYTHING be perfect. as someone who doesn't get a whole lot of powder on my skis, I think an all-mountain charger shouldn't be more than -2. But the frankenski sounds like a ski I would put at maybe -1 personally.

It's not that I want everything to be perfect I don't want to get it right the first time. I feel -3 is too much so think I'll got for -2

I agree I say go -2 man. Especially if you're doing anything, not in powder. if you were going super deep backcountry all the time maybe then go further but if you're an in-bounds skier that just likes having fun stick with something that will make it fun and buttery lol.
