Center mount on a directional Ski?

So something just crossed my mind, if you have an All-mtn Twintip let’s say The Bent chetler 100, how does it feel having them mounted in center? I mean you have more effective edge in the back than in the front. Asking this bc I’m thinking about buying the bent but I don’t want to mount them at like -7cm

I would recommend splitting the difference, but i’d never mount them center. It will mess up the sidecut and where the ski is supposed to be skied. At least splitting the difference will put it closer to the point where it was made for

That was an extreme example, thx my dude

id only fuck around with different mount points on skis if i had access to other skis, wanted to try something different, and still had a daily driver mounted properly to ski on, but id personally stick with the recommended manufacturer mount point. never had any issue with letting the ski rip naturally when i go that route.

depends on the ski but the Blister review says that ski has mounting lines on it ranging from less than 2cm back to over 11cm back. IMO with a lot more rocker in the tip vs the tail you may get the same feeling as center mounted by actually going a few CM back. looking at the rocker profile on the BC 100 I think true center would actually ride like being in front of center so probably a couple back is the way to go if you want to really feel centered

I did it actually on 2 or three pairs of skis that weren’t set up like that. It has its pros and cons. Skiing skis center is actually really fun, but being ahead of the side cut is definitely a thing. The other downside of that is that the fattest part of the core is behind you instead of underfoot. The nose of most park and pow skis tend to be pretty soft, so your edge grip and power of the ski suffers because the ball of your foot is edging the ski way up towards the shovel. You will tend to ride backseat to compensate. It’s a problem you don’t have when the ski is designed for it.

for the [tag=581]#2020 Atomic Bent Chetler 100[/tag] i'd say its fine to mount them near center especially if youre going to be riding park most of the time with them. Any other ski itd be good to look at the profile and adjust accordingly
