Cell phones and skiing

i was summer jibbing yesterday and my friend broke his phone when he fell on it. it made me think, how many people break their phones/ipods/other portable electronics while skiing? just curious. feel free to share any good stories

also, where do u keep your phone to prevent it from breaking? personally, i keep mine in my inside coat pocket, i feel like that is probably the safest spot since i hardly ever fall on my chest.

I like to not bring mine with me when I'm on the hill. I will usually leave it in the lodge in my bag or in my car.

i just keep mine in my pocket, i have never had anything break. Now im prolly gonna end up breaking my phone and my ipod because i said that.

i do this ^^^^ but if i have to have it with me just in my pants pocket.
i crackeed the screen landing on it.
i could care less

Coat pocket. Fell and got buried waist deep in a tree well this season with no cell phone. luckily dug myself out but if i couldn't i would've been fucked without a phone.

i personally have never broken anything but my friend has broken 3 phones and lost one he kept them on his leg pocter for the first two and the second one was in just a fron pocket in his jacket. He fell and each time it smashed his phone. The 3rd phone was only a day old hahaha.

I just leave it in the car, don't get reception at my local mountain. I don't ski with an iPod or anything usually so I can talk to my friends, if I do carry one it goes in the media pocket in my jacket. Never had anything happen to it there.

I have a Shuffle that I got on here for 20 Bucks. Enough Music for me to listen too but the thing is like indestructible. My cell phone isn't really that important when I am skiing so I either leave it in the car or hide it deep in my pockets.

i used to have an 160 gig ipod classic that i fell on and snapped..so i just bought a shuffle for skiing. and as for the phone its so shitty that i really dont care if it breaks or not

i've cracked two phone screens skiing with them (i have shitty flip phones so the cracked razor screen doesnt really matter). both were in the park. but i like carrying my phone most of the time in case i really need to get hold of someone. Also switched to a shuffle and i keep both in my pants pockets.

Water damage on 16GB and Razr2. $600 phone broken, fuck me man. I loved that thing to death. Ever since that, I've been rocking the $20 talk and text phones.

haven't broken my shuffle yet (knock on wood) i have had it for 2 seasons. its always clipped on to my gogzz shits bomb proof.

i had a Krazr and it slid out of my pocket off the lift and fell like 60 feet into deep powder and i never saw it again

I used to carry my old phone in the media pocket but it fell out once. Didn't realize it until the end of the day and luckily it was at lost and found. We went back and watched footage from the day, and could see it fall out of my jacket and slide down the hill. Since then I got an iphone that I do not bring on the hill.

I do use a shuffle that I clip to my base layer up near my shoulder and have never had an issue with.

... you ski with your phone?and I usually just put my ipod in my front pocket/ why am i telling you what pocket I put things in/ why do you want to know/ what are we talking about?

made the mistake of putting my ipod touch in my left pants pocket...

slipped on a rail and it got crushed against the rain and my thigh so i ended up with a bruise on my thigh and the screen got all cracked and i could no longer unlock it. whoops

I did the exact same thing except all I did was crack the screen and break the head phone jack. I sent it into Apple and got a brand new ipod touch so its all good haha

well since my phone is a piece of shit and overheats if I put it in my pants pocket(insulated snowpants) I usually put it in my coat pocket. Never broken anything skiing.
I also hate skiing with an ipod. I feel the headphone cords get in the way

if im wearing a hoodie i leave it in my bag, cant stand texting and skiing.

And my ipod pocket in my hoodie is for my ipod

my ipod screen got destroyed a week after i got it while skiing...but i usually dont listen to music while i ski, or have a phone.

i have a shitty walmart 20 dollar phone that never breaks. and if it does, i can buy i new one for 20 dollars

broke my htc touch skiing the one day i put it in my pants pocket, took it to verizon and claimed the screen died on me( no cracks) so they gave me a new one haha

quick tip - put your phone in a ziplock bag to keep the moisture out if your hiking or whatnot. saved my ass a few times.

I hada close call this year, it fell out of my pocket, but i found it next run, and dried it off an d put it in a bag of rice when i got home and it was fine

i have the least durable phone known to man (iphone) and always keep it in my pants pocket and have not smashed or cracked it yet.

Yea that's why a cheap set of walkie-talkies when skiing pow, backcountry, or whatever is the best solution for lots of reasons-including breaking phones

i always have my phone in one of the pockets in my pants, and its never fallen out and ive never broken it from falling on it. but the thing is pretty much indestructable, so thats probably why it hasnt broke. i also have my old pos ipod in another pocket that i listen to, which it doesnt really matter to me if that breaks

Did he fall on a rail? I always carry my phone in my chest pocket because I figure I'm a lot more likely to fall on my back or sides.

cracked the outer screen of my phone falling on it this year. it was in my pocket. its like 5 years old i don't know why i haven't gotten a new one yet. it still works though... so i guess thats why

mine fell out of my pocket on the lift and went all the way around. luckily i got it back. my friends fell out of his pocket off of a jump and he found it because we saw it on film. thats kinda cool i guess

I keep mine with me at all times so I can check the time. I've dropped it so many times but it usually still works well, so I think it could take a rail bashing. I just keep it in the inner chest pocket

my buddy forgot his on a mountain somewhere in the front range backcountry during some late spring skiing
