Catching edges??

OKay, how does everyone land a bit off (sideways), and still stomp it.. if i dont land perfect, i catch an edge and crash. I read some threads on de tuning your skis, but it sounded more for rails only. Is there a way to dull your edges to land easier?

thanks for any advice!

I've never really heard of catching an edge on snow, unless youre skiing on ice? Usually you only catch edges on rails and boxes and shit.

if ur landing correctly you're less likely to catch an edge when a little sideways. Ur probably not landing as smoothly as you really could, tall or tip heavy.

i feel like if u were to completly detune ur edges for jumping ur skis would just slip out from under u when u try to land. for rails u can detune a fairly small part of ur ski but for jumps ud need to detune the whole deal, dosnt seem like a good idea to me.

It may have to do with your tune. If you take your skis to a good ski shop and tell them you would like a less aggressive tune, they should be able to make your edges less grabby by changing the slants on your edges.

Also, it may be how you are landing. If you are going to slide out of something, make sure you edge onto your uphill edge, so you will not catch your downhill one.

nah you dont slip out....if your gonna detune, detune the who ski or else you still catch edges if your not perfectly on or if your on a box

yeah, that happened to me yesterday, i caught an edge ona rail and went flying, now ive got a real sore neck and ribs. I also crotched a rail yesterday, wasnt haivng sucha agood day.

seems liek ur just landing on the outside of ur skis, i dont really think the tuning is the problem, just the way ur landing

Try to control your landing a bit more and be light on your feet so you can spin out if you need to. Same idea as if you are spinning from forwards to switch.

very true.

people need to learn how to land correctly.

skiboarding teaches you to not land on your tails, so life is a whole lot easier for me.

haha this is a problem that i'm struggling with as well. basically, it used to be that if i landed on edge at all i'd get fucked and fall all over the place. the key to stomping it (though it's not so mcuh a stomp in that case) is to stay strong on your edge and keep your legs strong. you can't just let yourself crumple and you have to decide to hold onto your edge and go out switch/forward.

deciding which direction you're going to land out of a trick before you even get to the feature helps with that as well. that way, you can look up the hill and prepare to land switch before you get to the end of the feature, or prepare to twist around and land forward in the same manner.

wha? u must not ski because no matter where you are you can catch edges. even on snow i ve done it a ton in my 13 years of skiing

if your catching an edge in the snow you must be using some sort of razorblade edged atomic, or leaning as far over as you can

I mean like catching an edge on snow like you catch an edge on a rail, like slipping out. I know you can catch an edge on snow cuz edges are fucking metal and sharp. But you cant catch an edge on snow like you can on a rail ive never heard of that

all skis, when edged, are supposed to be detuned a bit at the main contact points of the ski, the fronts and backs... for rails I suppose you could do the same underfoot.. but don't worry the rails themselves act as detuners quite adequately..

keeo sliding rails and it will sooner or later stop catching, or just grind them under the binding area..

You should de tune the tip and tail up to about 2 inches below where the ski first meets the snow after the tip/tail. This will help stop edges catching. Also it will help when doing tip rolls.
