Cast vs Shift

I have narrowed it down to these two..

Shift or CAST (pivot 15) mostly inbounds use… I think so anyway bc I’m new to touring. My main question/concern is with the downhill performance/weight trade offs of the two on my particular ski -BC120. I don’t care so much about extra weight on the way up as I’m mainly skinning for the extra exercise before work on the inbounds skin track.

I’m not a pro, and see myself using them as I said mainly inbounds on deeper days at whitefish playing in the trees and side country but just want the option to burn some calories before work (just moved to whitefish and I’m hoping to get into touring, potentially)

5’10 / 185lbs and I’ll be putting them on 2022 BC 120. So I’m hoping for some feedback from anyone who has skied the BC 120 with either set up. [tag=195966]@cydwhit[/tag] ??

thanks in advance!!!!

yeah you’ll be good with cast. i’ve got a cast setup on some already fairly heavy skis and it’s no biggie, as you say just extra exercise. i toured a lot with two buddies each with the shift, one on the benchetler 120 and one on the benchetler 100. they both had fun but also had a couple issues with the toe and heel mechanism freezing up occasionally which can be a worry when your in the backcountry. the afd on the shift is infamous for adjusting itself and my friends would check before every tour and found the afd had risen/lowered a fair couple times.

I would defiantly go with cast. I haven't used either, but with you saying that you care a lot about downhill performance cast are the better option. I used to mount skis and shifts always felt cheap (the materials used since they are mostly plastic). You would save weight, but I would rather not have to worry about breaking a $600 binding skiing as you normally would at the resort. Pivot 15s are ridiculously durable.

Again I haven't used either and I'm a marker jester fanboy, just my 2 cents though.

Guys whats better? A piece of dog shit? Or one of the best touring bindings in the world? I NEED HELP DECIDING!!

Cast for sure, also plenty of great inbounds touring at Whitefish. There are an alarming amount of people going uphill on any given day, great way to get your feet wet in touring.

Awesome, thanks! Hmu if you ever wanna join, always down to meet fellow dead heads!

i had both the shift are really annoying they will come off at the worst moment when your hiking forget about landing switch tho they’re pretty light

the cast are pretty heavy but are super legit when you climb and I skied them on the park even in the street and they holding on like regular pivot
