CARVING off tables

Alright...this past few times I've been up to mountain I've been working on throwing smoother 3's by carving off the table. The first few times I did it I had a nice tuck and an okay safety in there...and the axis was good. But as the day wore on I started to spin off axis and would land really awquard. I'm sure that being tired had an effect on the way I spun...but what do you guys think I should try? LATE

that happens to me, ur probably getting lazy and spinning and throwing one of ur shoulders a lil up, which is easier, but then u land weird. Make sure u jump and spin on a horizontal axis, just focus on that when ur getting ready to go off the table.

Yeah - you need a good pop if you want to stay on axis. If you just throw your spin, you'll spin but you'll be at the angle of the takeoff. Think of jumping up and forward on takeoff and you should stay horizontal.

And make sure that your shins are pressed hard against your boots, and that your weight is forward. I tend to get back in my stance as the day goes on.

to keep yourself on axis, spot your landing under your left arm if you spin left, or under your right arm if you spin right.

Yeah, I've noticed that I definitely start to get lazy...and I REALLY need to work on getting just the right amount of pop...and I can tell that I spin a bad 3 when I get a bad pop or don't pop at all...thanks fo' the help...LATE

when i do carve spins i carve like 45 degrees off the lip and land really really far over some times.....but when i do carve threes i tend to corkand land wierd...but whatever

yeah man, pop is vital. I personally havnt treid carving off the lip yet. SHould be interesting to try. What does it change?

probably makes it a bit easier to spin and less effort so it looks more stylish, but thats just a speculation

Carving off tables can look bad too. Don't know how but w/ certain grabs it looks goofy

for the most part carving off the lip is for throwing down corked you can do it without going corked but you have to pop and stay forward cus when you carve it naturally throws you back.

It definitely helps with the rotation and allows you to spin slower and smoother (you've already got the motion and partial rotation before you take off) but unless I'm trying to cork then it screws me up...and trying a cork three at my level is worthless...I can hardly spin a descent five. Oh well, I'll work on it...LATE

how do you do it?

Frontflips are lame

i only carve up the jump for a cork 3. a regular 3 i just do like i do on my feet. to make it smoother, dont wind up, instead just lead your hips as you are popping. make sure you have a strong pop. and dont be wired when u r goin for smooth shit, just relax and have fun in the air.

just make sure you don't just hit the jumpat an angle and call it carve, i hate that, make sure you are still on edge when you go off the lip, don't just turn before then go off flat foot because that is not right and god will hate you

even if you carve you still need to pop

hash...weed...kif.... what funny names! is this 'weed' stuff tobacco? do you really smoke actual weeds from your garden? hash? do you mean 'half?'

why do you want to stay on axis soo much? the point of carving off a take off is to make it way easier to cork your tricks. soooo try and look down at the jump when you reach down for the grab in the 3. that way you will trow your body off axis and just hold it and look down till you feel yourself come upright. try being really lazy and not thinking about it much... it might help... if anything I would say you were doing them beter by the end of the day if you felt yourself going off axis and feeling weird in the air. yep. just keep leaning into it and soon they will feel just as natural as normal 3s and you will be sticking the landing. yep

if you want to throw a nice smooth on axis 3 then just pop of the lip and rotate nice and slow and heres a tip the bigger the jump the slower and smoother and better it will look.

Anything over 40ft is best for rotating nice and slow if you do it right it looks and feels sick and i think for corked 3,s you also need a pretty big jump.

I´ve done pretty much carve 360s this winter and it´s super smooth. It feels so natural to throw a 360 that way. It´s easier to do cork 360 that way too. But dont carve toooo much, you need a wide landing =)

Isn't carving a key part of doing corked tricks? I think i read that somewhere

Carving is just like another way of jumping. It adds style, but people shouldnt also carve. If youre gonna carve- keep it real and do both!

carving off the hit makes corks a lot easier to do

once u can ski midwest dirt and grass, you can call yourself good

getboards must die

1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, FLOOR

just dont lean back when you carve it causes that naturally and if you get too back on an on axis three you will land back seat and it wont look good.

when i carve i go WAAAAAAAAAAY to the left of the jump, then just before the transition starts i carve right then mid jump i start carving left again, its key.

this is good to try on 2 wide side-by-side tables. it's pretty easy this way, and looks sick

don't throw stones if you live in a glass house;

and if you got a glass jaw you better watch your mouth

how i carve is i go on the far far left near about the base fo the jump, then carve right, and right before the lip switch edges to my left. this helps you not travel across the the landing but rather go straight off the jump and still have the carving effect, also i find it alot eeasier to land like that

carve cork 3's are sick. but i think that if u carve off on a cork 5, it doesnt look as good. i like seeing someone jus hit the jump normal, and throw a cork, no carving. but on cork 3's, carving is deffinitely the way to go.
