Carl Sagan. A hero for humanity.

I thought i would share a Carl Sagan for some of you younger folk who may not know of Carl Sagan and maybe some of the older crowd who may have never heard of him. He was a true hero for humanity and science. This may not be newschoolers bag, but even if one person takes some of his words to heart its worth having a thread. This is utter bullshit, there are plenty of other people that deserve that title more than Carl Sagan. Sure he is a smart man, but nothing compared to the other great minds of the modern 21st century...BULLSHIT

off the top of my head, i'd say someone like terry fox, that man was unbelievable.

i can't deny that carl sagan was a smart man, but i absolutely disagree with his ideas about humanity's insignificance. we may inconceivably small and short lived on the universal scale of things, but we are the only interesting thing that we can find on that inconceivably large scale. nothing else even comes close to earth, and nothing on earth even comes close to humanity. we're both extremely significant.

while i do agree with what you are saying, there can be more than one hero for humanity. Terry fox was an amazing person and humanitarian but that in its own right is a completely different ideal than what Carl Sagan was able to explain and share in such an articulate manner. The reason why Carl Sagan is such a important person in humanity is because he is a modern pioneer of cognitive thinking and not accepting something "as is" without any real muse. The earth maybe our home, but it is not as pinnacle as people tend to think. Kepler telescope last year in just a span of a few months was able to scan a minute patch of sky and found over 1000 earth like rocky planets and 50 of these planets lie in the goldy locks zones of their stars... and of those 50 planets, 5 are almost carbon copies of earth. To think that we, as humans can simply ignore the cosmos is plain ignorant. Carl Sagan was an amazing spokes person for science, the human condition, and cognitive thinking.

Terry fox is a hero among men aswell.
