Car transmissions

so i have a 1999 Dodge Stratus, and unfortunately, the transmission just went. this is extremely bad because ive been working my ass off trying to pay for college, and i dont have time to be saving for a car. my parents said they wont pay for a new transmission in my car. my question is... how much do transmissions cost? and has anyone ever had this problem ? i need help.

My parent's had to replace my jeep's tranny and it was about 2000 bucks new. Seems like a pretty average price; 1500-2000 new.

yea mine went last year i have a honda crv 99 and it cost 1800 so yea good luck with that hun, they suck alot. hope it all works out. you could always take out a student loan and use it for the transmission!! i know people who do that

ya you are kinda screwed unless you have like 2g's lying around somewhere...maybe if you want to save 500$ then you coiuld go to a standard transmission

^exactly. don't buy new.. especially from a dealer. call around to salvage yards and they'll find you one for much less. any reputable shop will put it in for about 4-$500. hell, save the money and do it yourself if you feel like taking on a challenge! haha. we could change a fwd tranny in a day and a rwd tranny in an afternoon. the thing that sucks is the gear oil.. that shit smells soooo nasty. takes like 4 showers just to come out smelling humal again if you get it on you.
