Car Tint Law Question

So I bought a new car and I want to get my windows tinted. I really wanted to get 20% all around cause the law on the front two is 50% and thats barely tinted so I don't want to pay for a slightly tinted window. So if I get pulled over by a cop for anything like speeding or another traffic violation does it give the cop the right to search my car without my permission? I try not to keep stuff in there but sometimes I forget and I don't want my car searched because of my tinted windows.
 
I doubt that the cop will search your car because of that but you may get a ticket or have to remove your window tint. Tinting windows is risky, I've had some friends that have been able to get away with it and I know someone who was told to get the tint removed. I'd talk to the people you were gonna have tint your windows about that.
 
They can search for any reason that they want. All they need is suspicion. Tinted Windows shouldn't be a reason to search a car tho.
Its good to hear that you are p on your tint laws though.

In canada at least, there is fair bit more required than suspicion for a search, it was actually recently upheld that "smell alone does not constitute reasonable grounds for a search" meaning that if a cop smells weed but sees none and your not acting stoned or anything your fine.

basically you can get stopped and charged for illegal tints, just like an illegal muffler or having to many front lights, its a simple violation. Does nothing to give grounds for a search
 
Cops cant search a car for no reason. one time my friend had some crushed up laxatives to put in someone's drink lying on his laundry in the back. the cop saw it and thought it was coke so the cop asked if he could search the car. my friend said no then the cop went and tested the bag, which came back negative. then my friend drove home free

Some things I'm real jealous of like your import laws for cars, but then again I hear there are some stupid rules up there as far as inspections and shit.
 
My best friends brother drives a corvette with completely blacked out windows and windshield. idk what the percentage is, but you cant see in from the outside at all. and we live in NJ where they are extremely strict about window tints. all he did was get a prescription from his doctor. go to your doctor and tell him that you get severe headaches from sunlight while you are driving and you dont want to wear sunglasses cuz it impairs your vision. he does get pulled over for it every once in a while, but never got a ticket cuz he always just shows them his prescription, its amazing and the perfect plan.
 
it honestly depends on the cop thats pulling you over. like others have said, some people don't get hassled for tinted windows, some do.
If your that worried about getting pulled over, than don't tint your windows 20% all around.
 
yeah doctor prescriptions fix anything. i know someone whos not allowed a dog in there apartment but he got a prescription from the doctor saying that he needs it for companionship or something
 
shouldnt be a reason, but it is for most cops when theyre feelling douchey.

also location? i know ny tint laws but not anywhere else.
 
also, if its warm/not raining, roll down your windows if you get pulled over. cops are mainly worried about not seeing who/whats in the car so by rolling downthe windows they have more confidence in aproaching the car and most likely wont bother you about the tint.
 
Ya thats my plan if I do ever get pulled over. Plus once summer hits I'll be able to roll my windows down at night. I know some people don't get the reason why I don't just get 50% but its because thats barely tinted at all. I'm tinting them 20% percent because A- it looks cool and B- it keeps the heat out in the summer and I just like the way tint looks on a car. thanks for all the respones so far I'll just be more careful on what I keep in my car.
 
yea dude 50% is worthless, i looks shitty and wont help with sun whatsoever.
if i hade money to do it/ wouldnt get raped with tickets, id probs do 15%all around
