Car paint job price?

Was wondering if anybody out there could give me an estimate on getting a car painted. since I know it will be asked, its a 2012 golf mk6. gloss black now.

I'v never been able to find a general price, and have heard anything from 500-$4000
 
when I did it myself it cost more than $500. I would be willing to bet it would be at least twice that ~1500, for the most basic paint job. If you want it to look really good it's gonna be much more.
 
My math teacher was telling me about his friend who spent $30,000 to get his car painted. But you could define you get done for under a grand. Just remember you get what you pay for
 
a lot of it depends on whether or not you are changing the color of the car, and the extent in which you want it painted. if you're changing the color of the car, and you want the engine compartment changed to match, you'll obviously spend a lot more. IME, $2,000 is an average price for a "regular" paint job, i.e. no crazy paint/colors/designs. a golf is a little smaller car though, so it may be a little less.
 
Why would you repaint an almost brand new car... from the factory the paint is electrolytically charged so it sticks a lot better than when you go get your car redone. leave it be.
 
have you ever owned a black car? it's the most god awful color to try and keep clean. shows every little bit of dust, water spots, etc. yeah, it looks good when it's clean, but it's such a bitch to keep clean.
 
if it's just for personal preference, you'd be far better off just selling the car and buying one in a different color...
 
Depends how involved you want the color swap to be.

Don't want the door jams painted or anything like that? I bet Maaco could do it for a grand but it probably won't hold up like OEM paint.

If you're looking for a complete color swap, jammed, engine bay, and pretty much everything minus the floor pans I'd say you're easily looking at 3-4k. The majority of that price would be disassembling and re-assembling the car. Since the car is fairly new, I'd suggest what someone else already said, get a different car the color you want. Since the car you have is practically new., you don't want it to depreciate anymore than it already has with a half-assed paint job.

Yea when you peel vinyl clear coat comes with it even when you heat it, My brother wrapped two cars, his s4 (euro blue) and our friends car (white) then he changed it to tornado red. When we peeled the white off the clear coat came up in some spots. But it's a great option, he used a company called hexis and it was about 700 total I think.

I can't believe someone would paint their car because of this. Who repaints cars? I mean sure if you're restoring something, but repainting a decent car just to change the color? I don't even...

I've never had my car painted fully nor do I have any friends that paid a shop to fully paint their car. Any idea how much a good paint job would cost where they would also fix little dents as well?
 
I had a car repainted 4 or 5 years ago. Got in a minor accident and did all the body work myself and had the whole car repainted at maaco for like 350 dollars. I only expected it to last for a year or 2. The car had a ton of miles on it and i didn't think it would be around this long, but here we are a few years later and it still looks fine.
