Hey man, whatever gets you there with enough money... If that's all he has then I'd say it's perfect. Nothing wrong with driving a shitbox if it does everything you need it to.

Dont you just love people who think anyone under 25 that drives has a 100% chance of crashing their first car?

When I got my car last year, at least 10 ppl told me "I don't deserve a new car because I am too young and will crash it"

I personally would pick the GTi over the A3 in this case but like I said, earlier, they are essentially the same car.
 
Get the GTI, working on VW's is cake compared to Audis. Plus you will very soon be bored of the 1.8t and there are many options for turbo upgrades and power gains. There are also many sick OEM+ upgrades that will make your car better looking and unique. The electrical problems are easy to work out in most cases. The only bad thing is the FWD. Just make sure you find something that is well maintained, you dont want to have to clean up after the PO. And for countless reasons,.. get the 5spd.
