I'm sure this has been posted before, but id like some more updated answers.

Anyways, looking to get some speakers in to my car (Sub/Amp) But have no idea what I'm doing. I definitely want some good sound, but i don't need to be bumping my whole neighborhood so I'm thinking no bigger than a 12 inch (?)

I'd like to know what you all are running and what has / hasn't worked for you. Budget doesn't matter all that much, but i don't want to spend way more than i have to

anything helps!

What kind of car do you have? Have you upgraded the head unit?

Check out www.crutchfeild.com as a good place to start. Another option is to just replace your door speakers with some good brand named drivers, and even run a 4 amp to them.

I've done a fair amount of audio work so if you have any questions you can PM me.

if done right a single 10" can sound like 2 12"s so don't bother spending money on a 12".

i've been told that alpine systems are the best you can buy but i've also heard clarion and JL are very good.

I assume you'll be putting this in your golf so a 1000W amp, a 10" sub and maybe a single din head unit should do very well in a little hatchback like that. And if you don't know what you're doing, professional installation is VERY worth it.

Ive got 2 12" dual kicker subs running on a 1200w sony xplod amp in my smaller civ and they pound pretty hard. Definitely not cheap but not tooooo expensive

ya my truck came with a 8" factory sub and i cant even turn it halfway up because its too loud. i just like it for a little extra bass, i dont get the point of not even being able to hear the song over the bass

Any ideas on what an install would cost?

Alpine type R's are the best sounding subs ive heard. Bass is so clean and hits hard as fuck.

Its not a drowned out bass either..thats the thing i like most about them. When it hits the bass is tight and on point.

1 12 will probably be good for you..or even a 10. You said you dont want overkill so you wouldnt want two 12s because its fucking crazy when you have two type r's in your trunk.

Would also suggest getting a rockford fosgate sub, my buddy had this set up in his suv and it was the best system ive ever heard.
